The fact they don't sell tickets with connections but rather make you buy two separate tickets makes me very leery of Flair. Not sure if it's true but I'm told it's so they have no liability if they leave you stranded enroute to somewhere.

I might use them if I just wanted an aerial bus ride to TO at the best price but other than that..........

Still risky business for the Saint John Airport to get too cozy with FL(y by night)AIR Airlines. They've had planes repossessed before, and I imagine it will happen again.

They have also said they they were not looking to add capacity currently. Certainly some mixed messaging but what we know is they are in a pickle. Hope that we keep them in the province and would love to see them expand their offerings/frequency out of SJ.

Yes Flair (and Lynx) are best used on a direct flight and in situations where no customer service is required (if you're stranded or needing baggage services, you're going to struggle).

The other thing to consider is that the number of low cost, no frills airllnes in Canada that have been successful long term is exactly Zero.

These guys could well still be running this time next year but it also wouldn't be a huge, earthshattering shock if they shut down on Tuesday.

Preach!

I foresee this going the route of Canjet, Jetsgo, HMY, Aero Bee, Tango, Canada 3000, Harmony, Holidair, Royal, Skyservice, Swoop, Zip, and Zoom.....and of course my personal favourite....Roots Air. Yeah, like the sweatshirts.

Too many more to type.

LOL

I had a friend who was a very senior Air Canada pilot when he retired in the early 2000's after 35 years. He was always adamant that the Canadian market was too thin and the routes too long to ever support a successful low cost carrier like you see in the US or Europe.

Wasn't one of their flights stuck somewhere once because their account was in arrears and the local fuel supplier cut off their credit?

Does anyone know when the Air Canada Spring/Summer schedule gets announced? Curious to see of YSJ recovers any of the flights they lost and/or if the timing of flights improves

These are always subject to change, but the AC schedule site has a 0530 departure to TO in the summer. That would certainly open up some connections.

My flight to Toronto in May has been adjusted to leave at 5:30 via AC. Not a fan of getting to the airport for 4am but it will definitely help for connections abroad.

Preliminary schedule showed the return of the early morning yyz flight (Rouge A320 aircraft) and a similar late morning/mid-day departure (upgauged from a CR9 to Rouge A319)

Still showing only one early evening departure to YUL which makes for some incredibly tight connections to AC’s European flights

Well, that gets you out to most destinations in one day but it doesn't sound like you'll be able to get back without an overnight a lot of the time.

EDIT I take that back. They are showing a 21.35 departure from YYZ arriving in SJ at 00:30 (A319)

Good news, but, we really could use year round service from WestJet on that route.

I wonder how the year round service to Calgary is going? With Calgary as their principle hub, it makes this route convenient for connections to the western US and Canada.

Its going to Daily in May instead of late June this year so it must be doing well.

This Bloomberg article from two weeks ago. They sound pretty shaky to me.

Ysj

An article gives mention of a partnership with YSJ and another Atlantic Canada airport. Also new flights to be announced in April. Any guesses on the route? I'm going with Flair. St. John's - Saint John - Vancouver.

I believe that this is going to be with Halifax. Multiple flights per day with a very short/simple flight and easy connection would open up a lot more options for YSJ.

Lots of good progress happening at YSJ these days, good to see.

I agree that connecting through HFX would work.....providing that the additional cost over the HFX to where ever flight pricing didn't make jumping in the car for 3.5 hours or so a preferred choice
