I can't imagine. I'm not sure what's going on right now. They seem to have stopped work for the wintertime.

Twice over the last couple of weeks I've seen people/vehicles on the ICON site looking around. No doubt the behind-the-scenes planning is ongoing. I can't remember, but have they ever stated when they plan on starting construction? This spring maybe?

No, they have never stated a construction start date. That doesn't bother me. I just want them to carry on with a 30 storey building and not wimp out with something in an 18-20 storey range.

Wimping out at 18 stories would still be the tallest tower built in the city since the 70s

Are you accusing me of irrational exuberance???

100% The Main & VH building being reduced from 10 to 6 floors still bothers me. I hope ICON sticks with 30 floors. It would make a major impact and hopefully prompt other developers to also go tall with their buildings.

There was some decent activity on site this past week so not sure if they've started back up or perhaps just doing some cleanup.

There was a post on Facebook retail talk stating that there was a rumour that a residential structure will be constructed beside the new police headquarters on Albert st

Indeed. I was advised of this by a contact who heard it from a very reliable source.

The land in question is on the NW corner of the Albert St/Assumption Blvd intersection, immediately adjacent to the new Codiac RCMP headquarters, and very close to Vaughan Harvey Blvd.

I checked the PAOL website, and there was a recent property sale in this location (PAN 01872086, 209 ALBERT ST) on December 21, 2023 for $330,000. I don't know who the purchaser of the lot was, but, perhaps MonctonPerson can help us out on this one.

The original source is very reputable, and, the recent property sale would seem to be at least partially confirmatory of the rumour, therefore I have a strong suspicion that something is afoot. Of course, we have no idea how far along the proponent is in the planning process. Development may still be several years away.

This is a prominent location. I suspect this will be a substantial structure, probably mid-high rise, and most likely 6-10 storey minimum. We will have to keep an eye on this.

It was purchased by M. A. Commercial Centre Inc (MACC Commercial Properties.
A list of their current properties is here: https://www.macommercialcentre.com/properties.html

Interesting. Although their portfolio is almost completely commercial or warehousing, they do have one small apartment building. I wonder if they are branching out? My contact was pretty adamant that this new project was to be residential.

MACC is a reputable company in any event.

Or, the "usually reliable source" may have been presumptive on this occasion, and this property will not be developed for residential use. I think we will have to lay aside our speculation until additional information becomes available.

It’s also interesting that this lot is triangle shaped and doesn’t actually extend right up to the sidewalk on assumption or Vaughan Harvey.

I assume Moncton would be more than willing to part with the NW extremity of this undeveloped lot https://paol-efel.snb.ca/paol.html?v=1.0.37&lang=en&pan=06491102 along with the ROW that's currently grass at Albert and Assomption. The same would presumably apply to the portion of this PAN northwest of Assomption and Foundry nearby https://paol-efel.snb.ca/paol.html?v=1.0.37&lang=en&pan=05792929

Has anybody heard anything about the Galco project at the Robinson St. parking lot? Should any additional information have come forth if they were going to start construction this spring?

Maybe I'm paranoid, but I have an uneasy feeling about this project. Always have.

Nothing new yet.

I wouldn't panic however unless we don't see any progress by the late spring, after the frost comes out of the ground. Give it until May.

I agree though, this is the year for this project to get underway, and if things don't change, it could very well mean that the project may have been abandoned.

A condition of the castle manor lawn deal in 2017 was that Galco was required to develop the Robinson St. lot within 5 years. In 2022, the city had initially granted an extension to 2023, but amended the extension to 18 months.

So here we are in 2024, and the developer has owned this property since 2017 - that's why I'm skeptical. I really hope they start on this project asap because it would be a great addition to our downtown.

May is only 4 months away!

I heard via a good source awhile back that this project will no longer be proceeding. You never know - things could change but at this point I wouldn’t expect to see a project although I hope this is proven wrong.

Will the owners be forced to sell if they don’t proceed with the agreed upon development?
