Wow!! Great snowy van pics. Looks beautiful.

Toronto looks pretty ugly right now; salt is caking everything and there isn't enough snow to make it look pretty at least. Also damn cold, currently -10. But the sun is out, which is nice. It's actually kind of pleasant for like, 30 seconds when the winds calm.

Light at the end of the tunnel as we return to a more normal pattern early next week.

Everything did indeed re-open here, mostly at noon-1 p.m. I'm hoping for a FOURTH snow day tomorrow. It's only snow squalls, and every time the forecast is updated it appears less and less relevant to St. John's but more to our west, but however bad it gets, should start around 5:30 so could be bad right when they're making the call

it's quite hellish out there, I used transit and saw several cars spinning out, an SUV hogged two lanes sliding around side to side with the bus stuck behind it for a good 5 minutes. Saw several buses stuck as well. Traffic was very light, seems many people took the warning and stayed home, many stores and restaurants were closed or closed early. A few power outages. It is still snowing around 4:50 pm, I can hear a snowblower. Will go down to -5 tonight and could be an icy mess in the morning with more snow expected in the eastern side and Fraser Valley areas on Thursday afternoon. Rain expected friday.

This is the sidewalk to the skytrain along Austin near North Road. I was wearing heavy snow boots so I was able to navigate but many others just had sneakers on, no idea how they got through this, at points I felt I might fall over.


This building deserves an award for its sidewalks today.

I'm having bad deja vu, and this Reddit thread is two months old so I might've already seen it, maybe even posted it? But KW was a bit... ew... about my setting my house to 16C in the winter. I'm apparently not that weird here!

This isn't even cherry picked. It's the theme of the comments, just not including a few in the low-mid 20s lol

Couple more pics from this evening. It's fun out there - everyone seems to be out & about enjoying their snow day - adults having snowball fights or taking pictures, kids tobogganing & building snowmen, dogs having the time of their lives, etc. Very few cars on the road, but plenty of pedestrians.

YVR recorded 25cm of snow today, that's the highest daily total since 2008 and the 2nd highest January day on record. The forecasted mid day thaw and rain never happened, it just kept snowing.

Out in the valley Chilliwack received 39cm.

-9C with a wind chill of -17 and a mix of sun and clouds. Sun early in the day, then more clouds.

Low of -14C (wind chill of -21) this morning. Coldest morning so far but still nothing below -15C. One of the few cities in Canada that has yet to fall below that mark.

The warmspot was Halifax (Dockyard), NS at 10.3C. That is pretty much the same as yesterday because Halifax hit peak temperature at midnight.

Warmest low was Solander Island, BC at 2.7C.

Interesting how large parts of Canada are still snowless in mid-January (southern AB, SK, big chunks of MB and ON and most of NS). Meanwhile Arkansas, Tennessee and Kentucky are almost entirely blanketed.

We're getting snow now, about 2cm already and it's still snowing hard. Up til now the grass was still showing a bit. The temperature is a more reasonable -5 and climbing this morning. The low was -8.3

Snow squall warning in effect. I'm at work out near the airport and it's very intense, but I check the security cameras at my house about a 10 minute drive away and the sun is out with no snow lol.
