I always thought Hudson's was just a placeholder name simply because it was the former Hudson's site. Kinda surprised they even attempted to trademark it.

I assumed it would just end up being named by its address (1208 Woodward) or whatever major company eventually occupies the office space.

I'm not entirely a fan of forever calling it Hudson's. The name is cemented as Hudson's Department Store and many Detroiters have memories attached to that.

On the one hand, I'm kinda glad Bedrock didn't get the the trademark, but on the other hand, I could see why they'd see it as effective marketing.

Choose the 'All Buildings' radio button - it's in there. Apparently it doesn't have an illustration though which is very surprising.

There are message boards I think to request a diagram from some of the illustrators. I don't' know where they are.

It did have an illustration but I reported it as being wrong as it was based on one of the initial designs. I made a request for an updated drawing.

I like a the idea of link to the Hudsons due to the foundation of the old building being used for the parking garage that the podium was built on. That said Hudsons as it were is dead and gone. A piece of history tied deeply to the heart of old Detroit.

If the trademark issue was about the old Hudsons Department stores name it wouldn’t have bothered using the Hudsons brand to market the new property is a marketing ploy. I don’t like seeing history recycled for commercial gain if there’s little to no connection.

The placeholder name Hudsons Tower has been floated to gauge public reaction and interest in the project. I’m not actually surprised that there is a trademark issue I’m not well versed in trademark law so I suppose it was naive of me to think Macy’s would be the hurdle as the successor company.

It just rubbed me the wrong way the way this unfolded. The reasons cited are restaurants which appear permanently closed and as well as a restaurant. It’s too close imo to not wanting to diffuse use of western manhattans claim to Hudson(s) due to the River and world famous Hudson Yards.

Times change and outside of Detroit there likely could be some branding confusion. I still like the idea of including a reference to Hudson’s into the final name it does seem like reaching to claim the site as Hudsons or Hudson’s. That said the project at its core has been in a way to rebuild a new focal point iconic development that replaces some of what Detroit lost with Hudson’s.

I think I probably overreacted a bit as I don’t particularly think Hudson(s) is a great name for the finished peace or Hudsons Detroit. I suppose it’s just a visceral reaction to the possibility of closing the door on the use of Hudsons in the name. I wouldn’t mind something like Hudson’s Place or Hudson’s Center it matches the sprit of the project.

It was cool seeing Hudson's under construction and in the skyline during tonight's Lions game! Lots of great shots from above the Ambassador Bridge.

Ultra-luxury Edition Hotel says it will open in Detroit in 2025

Quote:
An ultra-luxury hotel brand appears to be getting ready to open next year inside Dan Gilbert's new Hudson's site skyscraper in downtown Detroit.

Edition Hotels listed Detroit on its website Monday as one of 13 new locations that are "coming soon," with the Detroit location set for 2025.

Although neither Gilbert's real estate firm, Bedrock, nor Edition Hotels have officially announced that the hotel will go into the future 49-story skyscraper, the two firms last year signed a ground lease and management deal for such a location.

The Detroit listing was removed from the Edition Hotels website Monday afternoon after this article published online.

The article includes a couple photos taken on January 2nd:

It's North America's sexiest underground parking garage!!!

Complete with a 685' tower into the sky for some unknown reason.

I'm still not seeing any evidence that the tower portion of this project is under construction.
