It sounds brutal outside. Howling wind, loud slaps of some sort of frozen precipitation against the windows.

Edit: it is indeed disgusting out.

Edit: The short walk from the bus stop to the office was genuinely painful. Not cold but the ice pellets hitting my face were like getting whipped lol

Speaking of brutal, how about Friday night in Red Deer, Alberta?

-30 this morning on my way in. going to a low of -38 Saturday night. Then for Monday Shorts weather -9 for the high. Should be interesting to see how many frozen pipes are found Monday. It would be after these cold snaps that I would do a number of damage assessments from frozen pipes.

Had boiler start up this week on a couple of projects, I have asked that the Temp heat stays in place until next week. Don't want to have blown pipes on a new project.

+3C and partly cloudy in Moncton at 11 AM. Most of the snow that fell yesterday morning has melted.

-40s in central Alberta!! Tancredi would be impressed.

Had steel going up on a project Yesterday. Not on site today , but will be back Monday.

Had another site the welders never showed up but that was because the guys setting up scaffolding did show. -30 is the limit for most guys working outdoors. I can see, you may be able to work but production is way down.

We got a little dusting of snow last night, not much of it stuck though, as our mean temp is actually above freezing so far this month. The low was -0.1 this morning.

Tomorrow we're looking at another 10mm of rain and high of 4. Then we finally get some sustained cold weather starting Sunday.

Winnipeg got some snow over the past day or so - looks like proper winter now.

Temps are settling in to the low to mid -20s for the foreseeable future, so winter is finally here after a very above normal December.

The coastal mountain range in the North Shore got dumped on. Lots of fresh snow up there. I'll try to get a couple of pictures this afternoon.

Indeed. I can almost feel my testicles retracting into my inguinal canals.

Ahh it is a brisk day out. Thankfully the 2 sites I'm going to this afternoon have heat on.

The chill is finally gone from the air and everywhere the snow isn't pushed up is melting.

The forecast lows of -38 for Calgary would make it the coldest its been since 1997? In the early 2000s there was a cold snap that dropped the temp to around -35, but we haven't gotten close to an actual air temp of -40 in a long time.

From a record warm December to the coldest days in decades is a wild swing but very much on brand for Calgary weather.

The day began with a snowfall and warmed above freezing, turning to rain so the beautiful snow is almost gone. Another unbearable gray Toronto afternoon in High Park

I think this heron is depressed as well

In fact I kind of laugh at Toronto's photographers as there's so little of interest here. If you can afford a $10k zoom lens surely you could afford to live in Sherbrooke or Thetford Mines!?

I think last year we got close to -40 but I remember getting there more often in the 60-80s.

Coldest last winter was -32.2 at YYC Airport in December.

https://calgary.weatherstats.ca/char...re-yearly.html

Looks like the last time YYC hit -35 was in 2005. The data only goes back to 1999, but there was a day in 1997 that was -39.

Edmonton has hit -40 many times over the last few years. YEG Airport is even forecast to drop to -46!

Neither do we.

You would be warmer in Red Deer if you crawled into your freezer.
