I counted 22 floors on the 23 story tower today. It's also visible (barely) from the Queensway now.

The parking entrance is on Slater but the loading docks are on Albert.

This is seriously the best residential building going up right now. The materials and design are both high quality and interesting. Though, I do also agree that it was taller. I hope this city eventually gets rid of the ridiculous height restrictions in the core, or at least the one stretching down Sandy Hill/Lowertown/Beechwood. Makes no sense in this day and age.

I agree. I know there are site lines to the Peace Tower, and other variables that are meant to justify the height limits, but the Parliament is one of (if not THE) most photographed properties in Canada...people can view it in books, magazines, and online...un-obstructed anytime, anywhere. Is the ability to be able to see it in person (well, from afar/ different vantage points) really matter still?

What tourist or local resident says I want to go out to Dows Lake to take a picture of the Parliament Buildings? I'd like to venture down Kent Street or over to Vanier to take a picture of Parliament Hill.

This project is outside of the protected view planes, and the tower that became the Marriot Renaissance was pitched at 38f at one point.

I got to say that I had chills when I looked at Parliament and the skyline from Tommy Douglas' final resting place at Beechwood Cemetery. Since the Kavanaugh, not so much.

Same driving down Montreal, until the cluster of blank walls have gone up. That one's not a height problem, but a terrible architecture and urbanism issue.

Building a 40 floor tower at the PdV surface parking won't ruin the view. If anything, it will enhance the look of the skyline. Having walls of 300 foot towers across from Parliament deosn't necessarily inspire pride for Country.

I will never understand how the Kavanaugh got greenlit in that viewcone. They exist to protect certain views, but the CharcWhite taking up 3/4 of the frame from that point really diminishes the view.

It proceeded because it does conform to the viewshed restrictions. It was built right up to what was/is allowed.

Good scrape from the past! They really maximized the possibilities there. Somebody was saying in another thread that maybe we could have a tall building in the Market with a viewing hole to Parliament...maybe they are on to something

If you look at the center of the top partial row of windows at the shear wall... black spandrel is used. Are we finally rid of teal & baby blue?
