Low of -12C (wind chill of -20) this morning. Nice and beautiful sunshine to enjoy from the inside. Clouded up earlier than expected.
The warmspot was Race Rocks, BC at 10.7C.
Warmest low was Sand Heads, BC at 7.1C.
Ogimet website once again showing it's overloaded. It's almost a daily occurence and it forces me to look for the highest low manually.
I am done doing that except for new highs or special occasions. New time I see Ogimet overloaded, I am not gonna provide the warmest low location.
Not a very pleasant day. Gloomy and chilly with off and on blustery showers.
By the time my umbrella got turned inside out the third time I thought that's enough, go home.
-11C and sunny in Moncton at 11 AM, going up to -8C this afternoon.
Atlantic storms come in threes. The Maritimes missed the first storm yesterday, but the Avalon Peninsula got whacked. The storm tomorrow will dump 20-30 cm on southern NS, but we will only get a few flurries here. The third storm on Wednesday could be problematic. Initial forecasts suggested it would be primarily a rain event here. This has changed, and now they are predicting a messy event with snow changing to rain, perhaps with 10-15 cm of accumulation before the changeover and high winds.
Another depressing overcast day with a bitterly cold wind in Toronto, probably 1C. We need snow. And color, like in SHH photos.
Edit: finally, it's snowing! I also suffer from SAD so this overcast weather has been destructive, along with getting severely glutened over Christmas.
Speaking of inflation, SHH likely has heard about the success of Newfoundland's Craig's Cookies, now selling in packaged format. Suddenly trendy cookie shops are everywhere, including my local Andrea's Cookies near High Park: a dozen cookies for $50!
(And my local Tim Hortons franchisee is a St John's native who made his fortune in the Alberta oil fields, ~15 years ago opened his first TH at Bloor and Indian Grove and now is aggressively opening new locations along Dundas St W/Roncesvalles and Bloor West Village.)
The big thing in Mennonite country is fry pies - deep-fried slices of empanada-style fruit pies. Coming to Toronto and St John's by 2025?)

Newfoundland has a weather alert for coastal flooding and wave heights of 6 to 8 metres, from Fogo to Conception Bay. Vancouver has forecast temperatures of minus 12 to minus 16 on Friday, similar on Saturday, but all forecast sources are not consistent.
I'm aware most of our traditional cuisine is just hard times, poverty food but few dishes make it as obvious as fish'n'brewis. Dad made some for breakfast. He even spoons white sugar onto his brewis it's just salt fish and hard tack, with butter.
Dad was so pissed about the cold. "I woke up and saw -12 and said where in the Christ did that come from? Where did the cold come from? I wouldn't want a winter like this." But it's very sunny.

-4C and mostly cloudy in Moncton at 3 PM. At most we might get a light dusting of snow this evening from the passing storm. There will be virtually no accumulation.
Halifax will receive about 10 cm of snow with winds gusting to 40 km/hr
Yarmouth will receive closer to 20 cm of snow with winds peaking at 80 km/hr.
