Question/comment on those franchise valuations. I understand inflation and such. But how does an NHL franchise gain 54% value in 1 year? What is so special that Edmonton gained 45% in one season. Those numbers make zero sense to me. But I'm just average joe knuckle dragger.

Is this 'recovering' from the bad times of COVID?

Where does forbes get the data? Teams don't release this information.

There's a lot to be excited about with this current Jets line-up.I remember Chevy getting some grief in the media for not signing a "big name' defence-man, but the current Jets group seems to be doing a good job. Ultimately I think we have to credit Chevy for assembling a group with this level of talent, and Bowness for having them play as a team. Next three games are against original-six teams, so there should be some great buzz in the area this week.

My guess is Edmonton is valued much higher than Calgary and Winnipeg due to;

-the arena that opened in 2016
-McDavid/Draisaitl (each franchise players)
-having a winning team that has gone relatively far in the past two seasons
-the arena is still filled nearly to capacity.

Mainly the arena complex though...

Screw the media. If Chevy listened to those bums, we would be in last place.

The Jets committed highway robbery from the Kings, as I've heard LA fans say that Valardi has the potential to be better than PLD, let alone all the depth we received, and the draft pick.

This will probably end up being even better than the Evander Kane trade.

For sure. A large porrion of the value is arenas and other facilities for most of the teams. Im just not following how a team could gain 50% value in one year.

Vilardi is on fire! Another goal and assist, as the Jets defeat Boston 5-1, and move into 1st place in the division with a 20-9-3 record.

Total domination!

We are totally on fire. Our line up is so deep, we are absolutely doing fine on the ice without KFC and Kups.

Imagine having them back in the line up in the 2nd half of the season. Last year, we faltered hard. Let's hope we don't repeat those same mistakes again and for once, take command of the Central and get back into the playoffs and go deep.

Not to jinx it but this current iteration of the team looks like pure chemistry.

The earning potential of rogers place is probably 40-50% higher than canada life and 25-30% higher than the saddledome, I would be willing to bet it has the most earning potential in the NHL in terms of its various seat offering. It was built with VIP's in mind. It has an entire concourse for its loge level, Plus the various clubs and mini suites. rogers was designed and built to boost the revenue of the oilers. I would imagine katz broke even on his investment right out of the gate with how much it raised the oilers value.

Just makes me wonder what True Norths plans are for CLC to keep it on par. Clearly that's the jets building for the next 25-35 years. But are they going to add more VIP seating? They really need to take advantage of the real estate above the 300's. Or do they cannibalize general seating or suites to add VIP areas? Would the jets be better off with lower capacity but higher prices on select seats especially in the soft times

Well, True North renovated the Ticketmaster lounge and created the Play Now Lounge. From what I heard, they sold out all 4-seat packages except 2 of them, but this was before the season started, and from what I’ve seen, those 2 are sold out. With how TN built this section, they actually increased revenues by 1m+. And since it was pretty successful (however, let's see how they do 5 years from now), I see them trying something in the 300 section, possibly a VIP area, like what the Panthers have, etc. Also, isn’t the arena fully paid off, and they get tax credits to renovate it? So, I don’t see TN struggling here. They need to focus on increasing revenues from local businesses to counter the weak season ticket holder sales.

To get within striking distance of Edmonton's Rogers Arena, TNSE will have to build an entirely new 18,000 complex, possibly on the vacant parcel of land at the Forks. The current arena is just too small to do much with.

Well, the Jets ended 2023 with back-to-back wins against Minnesota!

There's a lot to be impressed with in this year's team, but what struck me this weekend was how strong they looked with either goaltender. Both look like #1's, so when Helle needs a rest I really don't feel any worry when Brossoit is in net.

They predicted in 2015 that The Jets would win the cup in the 2018/2019 run, so we are looking pretty good. Lost to the Stanley Cup winners that year. So, who knows?

Can't say i agree with this, Will it do the job as effortlessly and elegantly as rogers place? No. Does it need too? no.

What is Canada Life missing that Rogers has now? A few less clubs (which i assume true north will address, given the success of Play Now Lounge) A few less loge seats? From what i Understand the concourses are way less crowded as they have added over 20,000 square feet over the last 10 years.

Theirs a lot of room True north can take advantage of above the 300's. They could easily mimic the rogers place/Scotiabank arena type "tower" by removing the current concrete casts above the ticketmaster lounge and build straight up to the rafters to give access to ring of loge seating at press box height that could cover the Bowl (minus the pressbox).

Vancouver and New York have loge seating in this configuration. An added benefit is you can turn those behind the net nosebleed seats into premium club seating closer to the action

Believe it or not, press box height at CLC is basically Loge height at Rogers Place. so it would be some great loge seats with awesome veiws.

And to end off, 18,000 seats would be a disaster for winnipeg, As it will for edmonton after the mcdavid era. Seattle just built at 17,100. AZ is looking at 16,000. I'm assuming Ottawa will be around 17,000 as well. Its the New NHL. I've always said 16,200 would be the sweet spot for Winnipeg. If they can do that meaningfully, Which means less general seating and more vip options which clearly the city has an appetite for. I think they can get close to that number with some minor structural changes. Adding 500 loge Seats at 4K a pop is significant

Yeah 18k seats makes no sense for the economics of this market. The best business decision for TNSE is definitely to stay in the perfectly fine building they have that is already paid off.

Minus some modernization that could be done, MTS/BellMTS/CLC is pretty nice rink with good amenities (that could always use improving), nice transit access, lots of relatively cheap indoor parking around the rink and directly linked to two or three dozen buildings through heated skywalks. Sounds pretty good to me at the expense of a few more seats to save a billion dollars in relocation fees and construction costs somewhere in the burbs.
