Sorry you missed me, as I picked up my 80% off sheet set. There were only three staff for the whole place, but the number of customers was about the same, so it wasn't overwhelmingly busy (for a Black Friday sale).

IKEA will close their Richmond distribution centre once the expansion of the Richmond store, which will include a distribution centre, is complete in 2025.

Quote:
Crittendon said the company is targeting the store’s reconstruction to be complete by late 2025, and when the new space is complete the company would close its distribution centre at 7031 York Road in Richmond.

Without a complete overhaul of the interior Nordstrom space at Pacific Centre mall, Simons would work the best. Uniqlo only needs a much smaller space. However, if Simons were to take over, they should dedicate the 3rd floor to a food hall concept space, or even partner with nice chains like Eataly to complete the picture.

did the renovation of that building not get approved? I wonder if they will stock the $1000 towel wrap thing.

That's the renovation they applied for. Looking at the rendering I guess Balenciaga was always going to be the tenant.

Maybe you're thinking of that 1188 West Georgia retail rendering (not sure if it ever went beyond that)

This looks awesome - would be great if they expanded retail down Georgia. Given HSBC is in transition I would assume that building could take on a new tenant. Would pair well with the proposed patio for Karma Lounge on the west georgia entrance of the paradox.

Sweet mercy. What's that sidewalk width: like one metre at the most?

That's the Alberni side, but yeah, it's too narrow - like in front of Coast and Black + Blue.

I'm not sure what you are going on about, did you not read the article you linked? "...by expanding the podium to create additional retail space."

The diagram shows the glazing was to be pushed out past the original columns to create more retail space - that did not happen. The same glazing remains only the new glass awning and new columns to hold it up were added and some interior renovations.

If you want to nitpick and you didn't read the article either obviously.

This storefront expansion will be accomplished by replacing some of the property landscaping on the Alberni Street side.

Touché

Regarding 710 Thurlow Street:

Yeah the large retail expansion did not happen. They did renovate the space but only expanded out a little I believe. By the way, the renovation is completed and the space would be 100% taken up by Balenciaga. The sign is already up and I believe the store is also stocked: should be open in no time.

Ah, yes! I remember that. What they ended up doing seems underwhelming and extremely bland.

My guess is Balenciaga saw it the other way around, they probably thought it too monotonous, and since they can afford it preferred less space but more character.
