Does anyone recall how big these pits are and how many are there? Are there any photos? Thank you. Great idea by the way.

The are enormous. Here is the east one before they contoured the sides. I believe there are 3 major ones: south, east and NW.

Looking at Google Maps most have water at the bottom of them now.
#1 interchange: https://maps.app.goo.gl/voermBujikk2pcQX7 The slopes are unstable and have been slumping. You can see at the interchange that they left parts of the old ramps intact and paved. Now and then they'll park maintenance equipment on them.
West of #6 interchange: https://maps.app.goo.gl/9HGL6RX6mvrqY1Eb7
East of city: https://maps.app.goo.gl/qfmZyFYvJNTfR4Y29

The one north of the city is a bit different that the rest. There is a low spot near the railway but the rest is just the hillside notched out. The road itself goes through a cut and at the peak of the ridge is probably 30 feet lower than the original surface level. That ridge contains so much sand they were never able to restore it to a state that will grow vegetation at all. Just a big dune that has become a bit of an unofficial motocross track. https://maps.app.goo.gl/zZHj7QCCm6wkv5ma7

That ridge north of the city is huge running west to Wascana Creek near Wascana Trails. The road north of Armour Road at the substation is pretty steep having biked up and over it several times. The ridge completely hides the city when approaching from the north.

Council approves zoning application in Westerra despite public concern
The application will allow for seven three-storey stacked townhouses to be built on land that was formerly zoned for retail purposes.

esterra, economically, has not been a success, and we are desperately hoping to develop this community moving forward,” said Blair Forster, president of Forster Harvard Development Corp.

“I’m optimistic that if we can make projects like this work, we’ll achieve that goal.”

Westerra currently has between 1,800 and 2,000 residents in about 270 homes. When the neighbourhood was first being developed in 2013, Forster said they were hoping the population would be at 9,000 by now.

“The simple fact is we have too much land. Our vision was too broad at a time when the economy here was growing at a very accelerated pace,” said Forster. “That’s not the case any longer.”

Westerra resident Brian Lunde spoke to city council on Wednesday afternoon, echoing concerns from the community.

“The public feedback from Westerra residents to this rezoning application is overwhelmingly opposed,” said Lunde.

“I’m concerned that this will negatively impact my property value, my neighbour’s property value, and impact my family’s future in Westerra.”

Lunde said that the rezoning application drastically changes the original plan for the neighbourhood, something that he says attracted residents in the first place.
Who are these idiots who are concerned about a three-story building they must be insane or have too much time on their hand

Forster said that his development company has been in communication with three major grocery chains that are expanding in Western Canada, hoping to eventually attract one to the neighbourhood. Forster said that the company has received letters of intent from grocers in the past.
I wonder who the new grocery chain is that is coming to Western Canada

I noticed last week that Westerra project had already broken ground but forgot to mention it.

They started replacing one last Wednesday but stopped and put the old one back up, not resuming work until Friday. I think the plan was to skip the 2 lights closest to Pasqua and they inadvertently started working on one that wasn't getting replaced. The two closest to Pasqua are very widely spaced and didn't provide continuous lighting of the path anyway, so it looks like 9 lights were replaced.

Continuing toward Albert Street through Kiwanis and Rotary Park would be nice.

I noticed a change made on Ross Ave by that new Park Street warehouse. You used to be able to turn left from Ross into that property, but some time during the fall they filled in this gap in the median https://maps.app.goo.gl/43rmPfmmpXLFTwUx8 Probably for the best once truck traffic increases, but I did bike that way quite a bit whenever there was a train parked east of there preventing me from taking a shortcut into Glencairn over the tracks near Fleet.

On the night of Dec. 5 … we ate supper, we went to bed like normal. I didn't expect anything was amiss," Spooner said.

Like always, Spooner checked the city's voting page before bed to get caught up on the numbers. He said the red-breasted nuthatch was ahead, followed closely behind by the chickadee.

"But when I woke up in the morning and I checked the totals, lo and behold, the chickadee had garnered 2,371 votes overnight while Regina sleeps. And that got me thinking, you know, Big Chickadee was behind this. Something was afoot."

Obviously, something was a foul with a big, chickadee, manly, putting extras into the vote the crookedness of the city knows no ends

Photo shows the demo of the Burns Hanley Building on the right. The former physio place to north was also demoed.

I managed to snag some video of the demo of the Grant Block. Not overly interesting, but it's the last image/video I have of the building.

Video Link

Actually it had the name of the other major road in the south end - Gordon Block.

Grant Road/Drive and Gordon Road are both named for the same person - Gordon Grant!

Costs rise for FCL ag complex
The company is looking at all components of the project to see where it can hold or trim costs.
Heather Ryan said inflation is a concern. Although she wouldn’t say how much beyond the initial $2-billion price tag the cost has gone, she did say it isn’t far off to suggest it has doubled.
We want to make sure this project goes forward
Now four billion dollars

Updated my annual bike rides coverage summary image. I mostly stuck to riding around the city this year with one ride out to Pilot Butte and another as far up the #11 as Exit C. https://i.imgur.com/pWESymt.jpg

While I was out riding yesterday I noticed that the concession at Wascana Pool is still open. I don't see them getting a lot of business this time of year, although I guess they might get people from the Conexus office.

Yes, Gordon. Not sure why Grant came out in my post. I got it right off the video text.
