And this will be one of their largest stores in the region and will carry men's and kids clothing, as well as footwear, in addition to women's fashion.

This post got me thinking. I don't believe I've been in McAllister Mall once in the past six months. In fact, I'd bet it's no more than a handful of times in the last five years. Funny how the retail landscape has changed so dramatically in less than 20 years.

Hugely unlikely

1. The department store retail model in general is in decline. Macy's has been closing stores in recent years.

2. Macy's does not operate in Canada. US stores that have tried to enter the Canadian market in recent years (Target, Nordstrom) suffered huge losses and pulled out quite quickly.

3. If they did ever come to Canada Saint John would be an unlikely choice for a location.

Same here, and the only reason I've gone in the last six-ten months was to return a modem to the Bell store, not even to buy anything.

I went to mall last week. I dodged furry animals speeding by me by tiny kids (curious about insurance policy that rental store has) and young female teens that looked like they were attacked by bears with their mostly ripped jeans. I’d rather support local businesses like uptown.

If only there was a collection of better quality, locally owned shops and services clustered together in a convenient uptown location. Oh wait..........it was called Brunswick Square.

Anyone else notice what seems to be a complete lack of Christmas tree lots this year? Nothing around McAllister/Exhibition Park/East Point and nothing along Somerset or in the North end in the usual spots.

My City Life is closing their Brunswick Square location due to the mall renovating to move Lawtons Drugs to the 2nd level.

And they just revealed online that they are still open at Parkway Mall, but not for long. They said more info in coming days.

The new larger Ardene store at McAllister Place is now open. Located next to Guest Services down near Lawtons. This is apparently their largest store east of Quebec.

McAllister Place Updates

Torrid coming soon next to Suzy Shier

Ardene's new store inside the former H&M space, (down by Dollarama). Almost 20,000 square foot store.

Ardene's now former location. Around 2,310 square feet, perfect for a new retailer

Another McAllister Place update

This was over on the Retail Talk and Share NB Facebook group.

Quote:
“A source has just informed me that once Charmed Aroma closes for the season at McAllister Place, their spot will see a new tenant moving in. The source mentioned that they are super excited for the tenant taking over their spot. They know who it is but can’t say yet.

Also Calendar Club will be closing for the season on January 7th 2024 and will be returning to the same spot next holiday season”.

More McAllister Place Updates

  • Charmed Aroma will be closing sometime tomorrow, December 23rd, 2023. (In case you missed it, all their stores switched to be seasonal pop-ups).

  • Vintage Pursuit will be relocating to the soon-to-be former Charmed Aroma location, (near Urban Planet).

This will be an upgrade in size from their small shop across from the food court. Going from 675sf to 2,097sf. There is wonder if Vintage Pursuit is moving to the Charmed Aroma spot so that Your Shoppe can take their current spot across from the food court, (same exact size spot as their current store). Therefore making room to combine Your Shoppe's current space with the former Ardene spot right next to them, creating a larger unit, (2,985sf). Would be the perfect location for a Hot Topic store, being across the hall from their sister-store Torrid that's opening around the end of January 2024.

Good little puff piece about the combined efforts of Hampton's Gridiron Brewing, Beer Daddy BBQ, and Ole Foggy Distilling. The three businesses are staying independent but will share a facility to be built at this vacant lot, bisected by Ossekeag Creek, in Hampton: https://paol-efel.snb.ca/paol.html?v=1.0.37&lang=en&pan=05820007
