I know what he was saying. I'm making a play on his comments because it will be god-awful when it's compete.

Salt Lake really just has terrible architecture all around for high-rises. But I guess at least all these ugly buildings help make the skyline distinctive.

Tho, I do like the Worthington.

These tier lists are popular with the kids. Made one for SLC’s prominent buildings.

The COB would go in D tier.
An injustice to Gateway Tower West, the best looking high rise in SLC.

Ack. This forum, which is nearly unusable as is, 2 steps above Geocities, just added a new ad scheme that makes it even more unusable. Yay. Major kudos again to those of you who power through, post updates and images hosted on other sites. Yeeeesh.

I still hope they build a 200+ ft though.
The good news is that at that price it will have to be a tower or two. Zero chance that pencils as anything lower than 200 ft. Fingers crossed.

Cathedral of the Madeleine is S tier, yet nowhere on that list.

Agreed, S tier. I forgot some other buildings, next time I make a list I’ll try to be sober lol.

I don't think Salt Lake City is significantly worse than a lot of other cities, especially comparable cities in our size group. Most mid-sized metro areas do not have stunning high-rise architecture. Additionally, some cities with significantly more height saw 90% of their high rises built in the godawful modernist/post-modern days of the 70s and 80s and I find their skylines pretty bland despite the height (see: Houston). I personally find the generic 2010s/20s skyscraper more palatable than the generic 1970s/80s skyscraper. We do have differing opinions on architecture, so you may disagree with that.

I at least appreciate that SLC's high rises are relatively evenly distributed between different decades, so no one style dominates the skyline.

My problem with the Gateway Tower West (now the Beneficial Tower) is that it's too short. And because it's too short, it comes out as too stubby with its design.

If the tower was maybe double its size, i think it'd look a lot better than it does.

I think this is the main problem with most of our highrises. They start out looking okay, but when taller buildings are built around them, their lack of height becomes apparent.

Personally, I would put the church office building in the Z tier.

I think the One Utah Center would look so good if it was a 650 footer.

Everything on my list from S-B tier would look so much better twice as tall.

So it looks like Royal Wood Plaza has become our newest surface parking lot. Do I take this to mean that the plans for this site have either been cancelled or seriously postponed?

What happened to the laws that were suppose to prevent property owners from ripping stuff down without permits to rebuild?

Was all of RWP paved over? I saw it on Thanksgiving Day and the old parking area was still there but there was a hole where the structure used to sit.

Edit: I was wrong about this. I guess my eyes played tricks on me when I saw it in passing.

I had heard they were intending on starting construction in 2024.

Isn't the new parking lot where phase D would be? They are only doing C for now.

Yup. Drove by it on Saturday. There was fresh asphalt where the building use to be and parking stalls painted on it.
