Nice day yesterday at 10c, and it'll be another nice day today at 12c.

I was downtown again, and stumbled on some colourful alleyways.

Thanks for the tip Zoomer! I'll check that out.

It's raining and windy in Halifax this afternoon. Our high was 14.9 on Bedford Basin at 11 am but temps are on the way down sitting at 13.4 at 2 pm. It's a good day to stay inside.

Nice pics of Van Giallo. The city seems to have been lucky so far this fall with frequent sunny stretches mixed in with the deluges.

It’s been a while since I’ve heard wind and rain this strong. It sounds like a winter blizzard out there - a lot of weight in the drops slamming against the windows.

It’s calmed down a lot, still some stronger gusts. And it’s 13C at my place. I’ll take it.

Cooler this week, with highs 5 to 8 and lows between 1 and 5. Yesterday was actually pretty nice, the high was only 8.1 but with the sun it felt great and I stripped down to my T-shirt while out raking leaves and cutting the grass

Currently 4C in Winnipeg. Beautiful night to be watching the GC Final with a few wobbly-pops on the patio.

I'm legitimately surprised that Halifax is higher than, or on par with, much of BC. Given how past discussions have gone one would never think that this could be the case.

Average high in Halifax this October was 2 to 3 degrees above normal, the average low was 1 degree above normal, so doesn’t seem to be much to complain about there this year. It was really only the last two days that got unseasonably cold.

So far November is trending a degree or two below seasonal, and since it’s already Nov 20, you could be conflating more of November with October.

+1C and partly cloudy in Moncton at 2 PM.

A snow squall watch has been issued for the eastern Northumberland Shore of NS and eastern PEI due to NW winds off the strait and the Gulf of St. Lawrence, with enough fetch to pick up considerable moisture. Up to 20 cm expected over the next two days.

This is the traditional snow squall zone in the Maritimes (to a lesser degree also the Annapolis Valley and the Cobequid Pass area from the Bay of Fundy and Minas Basin).

Moncton is not really affected by snow squall activity, except from counterclockwise circulation from a nor'easter to our east bringing in moisture from the gulf on the tail of the storm. This happens several times a year. Aside from this, we are at no risk. Squalls and flurries in northern NS and eastern PEI happen with annoying frequency however (at least until the gulf freezes over, which is less and less common these days with global warming).

Lower Mainland BC has traditionally had pretty bad Octobers as opposed to much of the rest of the country. Usually I find the weather turns mid-October from sunny, possibly t-shirt weather to suddenly rain, cold, jackets, sweaters and blundstones, almost in an instant. The rest of the country, i.e. Ontario and the Maritimes appear to still be able to enjoy mid-teens to 20s with sun through most of the month.

I notice this as I work with teams from coast to coast and there is always the annual whining about weather in BC first... followed by a turn around the mid November mark where we're able to hold onto the low teens or high single digits, only dipping to the mid single digit highs for much of the rest of the winter the rest of the country starts to see freezing temperatures and a frost that won't thaw until spring.

Makes sense. Anecdotally, October in Halifax was really warm but November has been cold and not very pleasant overall (with a few nice days tossed in). It's starting to feel like a more typical late fall here, which will continue to devolve into a cold, wet, icy winter (as usual).

Meanwhile Vancouver will have a couple of months of mild, wet weather before returning back to spring in, like, February...

Winter is here in Toronto. We dropped down to -5 over night, only going up to 1 today. Nice and sunny, at least.

7 day forecast is a bit below seasonal:
Highs: 1/5/5/6/2/1/2
Lows: 0/3/1/-1/-3/-4

No major snow events in the forecast; but possibly some mixed percipitation tomorrow evening/night.

I don't think these temperature numbers really capture the human aspect well, which depends more on relative change, how many nice days there are, and how bright or dark it is.

The Maritimes have rainier summers and much brighter winters than here. There isn't really a time of year when it feels like you'd suddenly settling into a protracted dark period in the same way as in the Pacific Northwest. On the flip side there isn't any time of year where you can rely on it being dry.

This year with the forest fire smoke around August it really felt like the end of summer was snatched away without much nice weather after, even though November has been pretty good. Even if it's relatively warm and sunny in November here the sun barely gets up into the sky.

It's true the seasons are shifted with the coldest time being December-January here versus January-February in NS. March in Vancouver is full-on spring and in NS typically a kind of non-winter non-spring brown period (which may or may not follow a January-February brown period). IMO the long cool-ish early spring period is the most annoying thing about weather in NS (not the extreme cold or heavy snow that some people believe in as a stereotype). The worst common Vancouver weather is when it's raining for 27 days in November and looks like twilight at 2 pm, and the worst Halifax weather is when it's April 20 and it rains for days while the temperature sits at +5 ("it's the 107th of Smarch").
