Nice piece of infill for Summerside. It looks like this is going to be an all brick building, which will fit in well with the character of downtown. Once they build the new fire station, they’ll be able to sell the old fire hall lot too.

St. Martha's Court

They are moving forward at St Martha's Court with three apartments going up with one recently completed and issued an occupation permit. This and the other apartments could be done by now if they had the crews to finish it. It's a big project with four more apartments to be built.
As for the other projects in Charlottetown, we'll see how many decades it will take to build the other approved 3000+ units because there are no crews, and none have any building starts in the foreseen future. They also have issues with material costs to consider. Our housing problem continues.....

They finally tore that old house down on University Ave across the road from the Credit union. There is also a large empty lot next to where the house was.

Right on! They should do the Tweel property across the street and right down the street to Invesco. One of the ugliest parts of the city.

I genuinely get so pissed off whenever a new development is announced, but it'll be at most 5 - 6 stories. We are a city of almost 100 000, but the NIMBYs are STILL saying "Oh the Charlottetown area is tiny and doesn't need high rises and dense housing." Look at other cities of our size. They have large, dense, walkable, and taller developments, which is far better for the environment, and quality of life.

Also of course, whenever a high rise development is announced, NIMBYs chop off half the floors, and even then, the developments are always surrounded in an ocean of parking, and near little to no available shopping.

Charlottetown has 83,000 people in the census agglomeration and only 40,000 in the city. Many of the areas in the agglomeration are extremely rural. It includes much of Queens County, more than I thought: https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Map-of-Charlottetown-geographies_fig1_340995691

The 6 floor thing is not the fault of the city, province, or busybodies. Blame regulation: it's genuinely much more expensive to go above 6. no wood framing, no mass timber (for now), mandatory pressurized stairwells, more complex fire management plans, and so on.

Charlottetown's Agglomeration is extremely rural? Charlottetown has one of the smallest Agglomerations of Atlantic Cities (sq. km). No part of the Agglomeration is more than 20 mins from the core. Latest estimates for this Agglomeration is roughly 95,000 people.

What would you say about the other Agglomerations?

Summerside's CA encompasses only 125 sq KM !!!!!!!!
Charlottetown's CA encompasses only 1110 sq KM

Fredericton CMA is 6015 sq KM !
Miramichi CA is 7600 sq KM !
Bathurst CA is 2100 sq KM
Moncton CMA is 2560 sq KM
Saint John CMA is 3506 sq KM !

Halifax CMA is 7275 sq KM !
Truro CA is 2730 sq KM
Sydney CA is 2420 sq KM
New Glasgow CA is 2066 sq KM

I find the 40,000 pop estimate for Charlottetown is way low. It's been 36000-40000 for a very long time. I don't know about everyone else but if you all haven't noticed, Charlottetown has caught up with rest of the country immigration wise, hence the huge housing shortage. And everywhere you go there are new faces present everywhere which is great. Also, the census doesn't include all of the ~10,000 students that go to UPEI and HC.
Then there's Stratford with its 13,000 and Cornwall with its 7,000 and all the little communities attached to their borders. You get pretty close to 80,000 there.
By the time you get really rural your probably getting 10,000+ more.
It does add up, all in a much smaller area.

New intersection, road coming to eastern Charlottetown next year

Two major projects — one by the province, the other by the City of Charlottetown — will dramatically change the way people drive through the P.E.I. capital's eastern end, near the Hillsborough Bridge.

Both the province and the city held a public information session in Charlottetown Wednesday.
The province plans to create a displaced-left intersection at the base of the bridge, similar to what is now in place at the intersection of St. Peters Road and the bypass. Officials say they looked at a roundabout, but that it wouldn't work.

This is foolish. A roundabout here would have worked just fine.

Here is the new rendering from a public pdf available from the city. I still like the first rendering better.

From looking, I wasn't able to see what is happening with Water street, which leaves me very confused.

They’re removing water street and having it intersect with Grafton in a different location. They want that park area to extend to the water.

Stratford Community Campus

The access road to the new Community Campus in Stratford is well underway and has been all summer. The construction of the schools will soon start.

Has anyone seen the rendering of the 5 storey going on Dale Dr in Stratford? I see nothing on their town site.

Winners/Mall Expansion

I see they have started the next phase on revitalizing Royalty
Crossing. A fence is now in place at the front of Winners and around the north side of the store.
