That is heartbreaking. My wife and I had met Karl during the contruction phase of the LUXE. He was dedicated to his work and family and wanted the best for his clients and Saskatoon. An immense loss to Saskatoon.

Utterly heartbreaking news. Karl was a pioneer for doing development the right way in Saskatchewan in general. Those are some big shoes to fill.

Has anyone heard anymore about North Prairie's Condo project at corner of Clarence and University Drive? I understood they requested an amendment for a rooftop common area, but that seems like it was a while ago.

I know the track record for these folks is pretty dismal, but just wondering if any new updates.

Also wondering if Meridian's Know Tower project will be deferred/delayed due to the tragic death of Karl Miller. I am hoping some kind of legacy project will be planned in his honour as a visionary developer in Saskatoon.

I couldn’t agree more. Sask poly provides a ton of value for the province in terms of workforce development. I’m don’t know their exact needs in terms of space, access, etc but building at innovation place will be a commuter style campus and that’s a missed opportunity for downtown. Put a couple thousand students, faculty and staff downtown? Yes please. Increased demand for downtown housing, hotels, restaurants, etc. Arenas are sexy but this would bring thousands of people downtown day in and day out.

I had heard about the accident that killed a family, but here now I know the details. Karl Miller and his family. Unbelievable loss. Take care everyone and try to enjoy each day.

I think I've brought it up before, but one just needs to look at Edmonton to see the benefits of having multiple locations for post-secondary education. The area downtown around MacEwan is beginning to blossom, and the bones are being laid for the same to happen north of downtown around NAIT right now. That's three post-secondary cores when you include UAlberta, without mentioning the smaller colleges in the city. It's really hard to see anything pop up around Innovation Place when College Drive and Preston Crossing are five minutes down the road both ways.

The Campus could've just hopped the tracks to the North downtown industrial area and taken over the city yards, if they had any brains, consultation and cooperation. Lots of room to make everything within walking distance and revitalize the core. But they started their 'search for a new home' with car access, not human access. Saskatoon loses again.

This misguided decision was made in secret without consulting the public. What a shame. Those who are responsible need to be held to account.

Finally! Get rid of the parking lots and get some more density to support the area and the Gather Market (and the location an actual farmer's market belongs... not an airport location) Hopefully there is some interest... and up to 95 m so should be interesting.

Completely agree!!!!
Is there any way to propose the Railyards Plan? I remember a while back, there was an infill proposal.... That would be perfectly suited for a new Polytech! The targeted demographic also fits!

Looks promising in terms of vendors. But those renderings haven't been updated and remain laughably bad. Also, I *hate* the name "Gather". Sounds like something ripped from a vinyl wall decal put up in the kitchen of a Martensville show home circa 2011. Or something a 22 year old Edwards grad cooked up the first time he realized that words can have two meanings at once. Why couldn't they just use a normal name that carries a sense of place? Toronto has the St. Lawrence Market, Montreal has Marche Jean-Talon, why couldn't we just call it the "Riversdale Market"? It would have been timeless and classy. "Gather" will age like Ugg boots.

I agree with you on the name. "Riversdale Market" in a Pike Place Market-style illuminated roof sign = instant icon and placemaking

Coming spring 2023... then September, then October, then December, and now March 2024. Why does everything in this city and province move so slowly?

I agree on the poor name, and the renderings are amateurish. Hopefully the actual market will be good though, I miss the old one!

I am really keen on seeing what is going to happen with the parcels there. At least the city has put a stipulation that building needs to be done quickly.

Hey, don't you know that speed kills! Saskatoon aims to be the safest city in Canada, I guess. Missing out on the opportunities of a lifetime seems to be a specialty of this community. People obviously have not have gotten the news about the largest megaproject in provincial mining history getting the green light two years ago. Where are the Bill Hunters of this world to take advantage of Jansen's synergy? Perhaps scared away or frustrated by our myopic politicians again. Same old, same old Saskie story.

I haven't seen or heard, but is there any movement on projects that have been approved and should see some action soon?:

-Ground clearing at the YWCA, DT, for extension? (4 story)
-Same, for Knox Tower? (Sorry, CEO... 19 story condo rental)
-Same, for "Two Twelve" Sask Crescent (5 story condo)
-Same, for Broadway/12th Street/ Modus (8 story office)

These are all great projects/infill. I hope they find traction

Insofar as Modus is concerned, I know that the community garden on that parcel has officially had its last season... presumably because construction is expected to commence in 2024, but who knows if they are just being cautious.
