It's not just a selfie opportunity being an event. These corporate leagues with multi-millionaire players are capitalizing on fans' dislike of the business aspects running the game and the desire/ nostalgia/ perception when the love of the game came first.
MLB at Field of Dreams was the tackiest of them all.
The events in ICE and around the Downtown look great and the event at the filed will be fun, unique and a special moment.

Like I said, that perfectly fine that you would have killed to be there.
It was still a profit/ consumer driven event which is like the polar opposite of the story. And, it's a new ballpark down the road for the movie ballpark with lots of room to add temporary seating. The plan was to have these events all over in farmers' fields across America. Tackiest applies.

It doesn't even compute a bunch of major leaguers getting together and having fun playing an impromptu game that means nothing and on the actual movie set. It has to be a big sponsored event on a field down the road with windows in the outfield wall so that people can see some corn stalks.
Lemme guess. you see the NHL shifting away from, for example, rainbow coloured tape and uniforms as a social step backwards too because there is one less custom jersey you can buy.
What I am supportive of is sport, memories, fun and cool merchandise to choose from. If you don't want it, don't buy it.

It doesn't make MLB at Field of Dreams any less tacky or these heritage classics. The very name, Heritage Classic, is to inspire that perception of a time when the sport matter more than the bottom line. The concept and execution is the exact opposite.
Cool merch ranks higher than sport. As you have said yourself,watching the actual game in a football stadium is an inferior product. Memories is probably a bunch of selfies to post on social media.
I think the heritage classic is awesome. Sure it’s a shitty setup, but whatever, it’s about the event and the Battle of Alberta and getting 60k fans out… nice they are having it in October this time too.
I love the Heritage Classic. I wanted to go to the 2022 game in Hamilton, but ticket prices were insane. I really hope it ends up permanently switching to an annual schedule instead of once every few years. It sucks that we only have a handful of large stadiums in the country that can host an event this size.

Ottawa, Hamilton, Toronto, Winnipeg, Regina, Edmonton all have adequate stadiums for this event. It’s just a matter of it being a one game deal per season.
