Yeah, I used to watch his show, Big City Broker on HGTV back in the day. I know he faced a lot of hostility when he first started doing developments in Hamilton, but as mentioned, he did a lot of quality projects in the GTA, and has brought his brand to other communities.

Looking forward to seeing these towers come to fruition...

Lamb hires people with decent (masculine) aesthetics although I would say some of those aesthetics that have become industry wide since he picked it up are time and/or cost saving measure like exposed concrete.

As a developer, his projects financing employed shady syndicated mortgage schemes that were eventually shut down by regulators. The layout functionality and quality of finishes tend to be below average. Typically, he is the real estate partner in the development partnerships so the quality of the build isn't on him.

Lastly, his personality is very abrasive for many Canadians

This is a huge project. How it turns out depends on the team behind it. King Charlotte is curtain or a hybrid system. Lamb buildings also use window wall.

this will be window wall more than likely given Hamilton price points and budgets - I expect it to be well detailed though given aA is behind it.

aA is tired in Toronto - but there really isn't anything like that in Hamilton. It'll be a fresh architectural perspective here.

I can't find any information online about syndicated mortgages being shut down by regulators in Ontario or elsewhere in Canada. There's nothing illegal or shady about syndicated mortgages. They're high risk unregistered investments. If you're willing to invest in such a security, and you don't know the risks, then that's your problem as the investor. Lamb really hasn't done anything wrong on that front. It's a smart way for him to finance his projects in a way that also allows people to make money off it.

I really don't like how some people try to make developers out to be the bad guy. It's generally the same people who complain that we 'need more housing!'

Maybe if we stopped bringing refugees in from abroad we could afford to house the people already here.. just sayin'...

why do we continue to bleed our country dry when we cannot even provide for the people already here...

(and yes I know the answer to that I am just being facetious and sarcastic before someone jumps in and fact checks it)

A) Refugees are such a tiny proportion of the population, and generally so low income, that they’re definitely not driving prices up.

B) A major choke point on housing production is the amount of construction workers. Refugees and low income immigrants are almost certainly more likely to take highly physical blue collar jobs like that than people born in Canada who were pushed into university degrees by our society and are now trying to find work in those fields. So, if anything, immigrants probably help lower housing prices by adding to the supply side.

(And, if this is a ‘joke’, maybe think about your humour in an era of rising xenophobia and neo-fascism.)

Nothing wrong with a little "cultural patriotism" or what people seem to brand as xenophobia these days lol.. every country is built on their own set of ideals and doesn't like when another tries to infringe on it. Obv. racism or pointed hate of other people based on where they come from isn't cool - but every country reserves its right to say "this is what we believe in, accept it or leave" as the people whose countries they leave to come here would most likely do to us if we went there. My humour is fine, most people who know me and don't melt at the slightest offense will get it lol. Not gonna change, and it's "fascist" for anyone to try to make me lol

back on topic - still not 100% pleased with the podium but the nice heritage house front makes up for it.

It's so weird to see this building site cleared.

Apparently they've switched to brick for the podium.

perimeter shoring piles are now complete, and they have begun excavating soil on the west side of the site. Already a couple floors below grade. I'll try to grab some drone shots this weekend if it isn't too windy.

How many below grade levels is this one? They seem to have bottomed out on the excavation. I'm wondering if we're going to start seeing piling soon.

5 levels of underground so nowhere close to bottoming out. This will be the deepest garage in the City. It's going to be a while before this one gets above grade.

Interesting. Were drawings ever released for this one? I haven't seem them.

So it's going to be similar to 75 James.... that one took FOREVER just to finish the excavation.

It may take even longer owing to "care" needed along the Hunter St. side, so as not to impact the train tunnel. Not that I would know, as I'm not an engineer, but I imagine CP will be watching carefully.

A condo in North York is getting built literally atop a subway tunnel right now - they just dig around it:

Being beside, yet alone on top of, a train tunnel is far from the most complex thing GTA builders are used to dealing with.
