City planning will need to evolve with working from home. Will be interesting to see what factors density will be based on in the future now that a growing amount of people do not necessarily need to be tied to employment centers.

whats crazy about Lagos is that, unlike Houston or Dallas, it is pretty close to other large cities:

Lagos, Nigeria
Porto Novo, Benin
Cotonou, Benin
Lome, Togo
Accra, Ghana

These are all in a line along the coast only 250 miles long. thats the same distance as Houston to Dallas. Lome and Accra are both "projected" to pass 10 million, couldnt find anything on Benin.

And thats just looking west from Lagos. Ibadan, which is "projected" to hit 28 million, is only 70 miles northeast

Let’s stick with the fundamentals for now.

Birth rates in most of the world are not that high anymore.

Meanwhile the U.S. has an aging population, and a lot of current immigration is going toward just keeping the U.S. population stable. The existing immigration is enough of a political hot potato as is, and Africa and the Middle East are very far away.

Realistically, the U.S. will maintain slow and steady growth, but half the entire world are not going to leave their homes for the U.S.

I think the U.S. will have a billion people at some point. We'll likely all be dead, but it seems very realistic. Vast areas that can easily be settled, almost unlimited resources, and easily best positioned for inmigration.

U.S. will likely pass China before century ends. India, nope.

Over 1200 square mile area? 20k per square mile on a 1200 square mile area would be pretty crazy. NY is the densest urban area in the US at less than 9k per square mile. I wonder what the density of the central 1200 square miles of New York's UA is?
