Traditionally the hardest frost on a particular date is listed first, but, in terms of an overall winner, I suggest we make the winner chronological.

And, yes, in terms of a chronological tie, the warmest temperature wins.

I don't believe Charlottetown has ever won, whereas Halifax has and I believe Sydney has as well. Cheer for the underdog!

Up to 5,000 customers have lost power in Moncton due to heavy snow laden tree branches contacting power lines.

Currently -2C in the city at 9 AM and sunny, going up to +4C this afternoon.

Reminds me of Hog Island, one of the barrier dune islands in PEI along the northern fringe of Malpeque Bay.

When I was doing my undergraduate biology degree at UPEI, we went on a field trip out to the island. We crossed a brackish channel in small zodiacs, trudged through a salt marsh at the back of the dune, and then crested the dune on the way to the beach.

I will always remember the moment I crested the dune and saw a continual barrier dune system curving to the southeast, all the way to the horizon, with the most perfect, wonderful beach fronting the dune system. The waves were crashing on the beach and seals were sunning themselves everywhere, and, most importantly, there was not a human or a human built edifice to be seen, anywhere........

It was all so beautiful and unspoiled. It was a near religious experience.

TWN's hourly forecast has both Charlottetown and Halifax reaching -1 at 2am and Sydney reaching a low of 0 at 6am. My $ is on Sydney as the winner this year.

Currently we're at 5 and heading to 8 in sunshine today. The normal high is 10 so we'll call it seasonal.

I saw a few flurries last night but the grounds too warm for it to stick here in KW.

SHH, I didn't realize you'd sold your car. It's certainly cheaper taking transit than driving. Unfortunately, I'm moving back to Toronto and as a new driver, my insurance is going to double. One reason I'm looking to move somewhere cheaper like 1) Eastern Ontario 2) Eastern Townships 3) Winnipeg 4) Saskatoon 5) Edmonton or Lethbridge?

I recognize that Aylmer housing estate: Southside of the main drag closest to the bridge?

I don’t think ground temperature had to do with it. The temperature here was in the upper teens and low 20’s just a few days ago and the ground certainly wasn’t anywhere near frozen, and a dusting of snow still managed to accumulate on some surfaces. You probably just got less over there so it didn’t have a chance to accumulate.

And that Aylmer neighborhood has to be in la Plateau, I think you’re confusing it with something else. It’s probably in Hull actually but close to the boundary (or in the easternmost parts of Aylmer… now that I think about it the latter is more likely).

Could be but a lot of the newer areas south of Ch. d'Aylmer (e.g. the old racetrack land) look like that too.

Sydney close to freezing, with a minimum of 0.0. Charlottetown and Halifax sitting around 2 degrees.

My personal station has officially frozen for the first time this year, currently sitting at -0.3 at just before 11pm.

Sun returned and the snow is almost gone up where I am; it’s been gone most of the day downtown.

Congrats on "winning", Ch'town. The most pathetic freeze list to date. We're usually thumping chests in November as the last 5 or so cities try and squeeze out as much warmth as possible. But nah, this year we tap out 1 hour into November lmao.

Congrats Charlottetown! Woot woot! I'm a tad surprised that they froze given that the water temp in the Northumberland Strait is still mid-teens. My local EC station on Bedford Basin bottomed out at 1.2 at 3 am; the Dockyard station 1.7 at 5 am; Windsor Park 0.8 at 3 am. It appears the city hasn't frozen yet. The forecast was for snow to start at 9 am. It's almost 10 but nothing yet. Temp at 9 am was 2.5.

Charlottetown tends to always be an early-ish addition to the freeze list. They tend to freeze around the same time as New Brunswick. The warm fall certainly helped them out this year.

I spent a year in Charlottetown and felt some of the most intense cold I've ever felt. Not Winnipeg levels of cold of course, but plenty of drives to and from work late day/early morning where temperatures were near -30.
