Hi there. A question for a friend in Edmonton who is looking to fly to Paris.

How is it that Westjet's business class roundtrip via Calgary is roughly $3800 but on Air Canada via Montreal is several thousand dollars more?

Aren't the airlines usually priced pretty close together?

Different J for different folks.

There is deal right now on yegdeals.com for YEG-Paris for under $700.

Is business class in a westjet dreamliner materially different than AC's? On the face of it, I would not expect a wide difference.

Has to do with supply and demand. Yield Management....

AC knows they can sell business class seats from say Montreal to Paris at a premium price. WS needs to deep discount to fill the seats.

^ if your friend collected Avion points 65000 points get you an opportunity to lower that $3800 by $1300 so $2500 for a business class seat to Paris is pretty good

Interesting. I did not know that. I'll let my friend know, just in case. Thanks.

Their business class seats on the 787s are the same.

On Saturday Oct 21,me & 4 others of my family/relatives will be travelling together on the early morning WestJet flight ✈️ to Vancouver YVR & connecting on to Korean Air to Seoul ICN & then Hong Kong HKG .

But when coming back to Canada from the Asia trip, we are not on the same flights.

So American announced YVR- CLT and YHZ- LGA for the summer 2024. Still no signs AA will come to YEG.

All I see on LinkedIn is that Edmonton Airport executives all over the place promoting sustainability and non-aviation related stuff.

Where are the flights?

Was at a business meeting with a bunch of small business owners and almost unanimous...everyone is annoyed with the limited connectivity right now especially to major US business destinations.

A business owner how moved operations to Edmonton from Ontario, is really hating the lack of connections to international destinations.

Most of the year round & non stop US/International flights ✈️ to/from Canada are are consolidated through Toronto YYZ, Vancouver YVR , Montreal YUL & Calgary YYC✅.

For Edmonton YEG & other airports in Canada it won’t get better anytime soon.

Especially with UA not on IAH anymore I think there'd be space for DFW, at least with some incentives added in.

Problem with AA is that there is zero cnx pax beyond YEG. At least with UA there could be some, although not much now with all the feeders gone.

That business owner needs to let YEG management what they think - the more pressure from the business community on them to get more international flights, the better.

There is no domestic airline feed for AA (OneWorld) from YVR but there are OneWorld flights into YVR from Hong Kong on Cathay, Tokyo (NRT) on Japan Airlines and Sydney on Quantas. There could be some international traffic that AA/OneWorld see that may be stimulated at YVR to CLT. I am speculating.

There is no feed period from YHZ to LGA - perhaps AA can see some of the new entrants help feed that route (I am stargazing).

There are a few on here that harp on feed and flow. But these 2 new flights above show that AA is willing to enter a market without domestic feed. YEG is 3x the size of YHZ and growing much faster. Hello AA - Dallas would be sweet.

My guess is that there is large demand for the cruise ship industry in YVR and lesser extent YHZ

YEG is also way below what it has historically supported for transborder flight capacity. Delta is content to let Westjet feed them and UA has a bit going on with Denver & SFO (AC feed) but AA is lacking and you have to think YEG is the largest North American market they don't currently serve so should be on their radar.

Yvr is a Global tourist destination and major cruise port so no comparison. Halifax is more of a tourist destination in summer than Edmonton. Also, a short commuter flight is less risky than a 3.5 hr flight, possibly mainline to YEG.
