Should be a pretty impressive station. Storage tracks will provide much more flexibility during service, at rush hour, for events and when there are issues.

Very disappointed they didn't include skylights above the platform. The accesses are right there. Also disappointed they didn't include green roofs to match the trades building.

Pretty amazing, yet unsurprising, how the density along the Byron tunnel was completely bypassed by the Transitway. I know a lot of it is relatively recent, but a lot of it dates from the 50s (apartment blocks in a park on the south side) to 70s (towers on the north side).

Does anyone know what the other half of the transitway between Lincoln field and Iris station is gonna be used for after the LRT opening? we can clearly see in that video above that the LRT is only taking half the former transitway space.

I believe it's to be re-naturalized. They are only keeping the roadway there for now during construction.

Is this the case for all the big round about bus entrances? Why not put TOD there. These plots of lands would be so valuable if we just sold them off. The stations west of Tunneys all looks so suburban in renders.

Still in the process of going live it looks like. Lots of links to "page not found". The new rendering of Convent Glen Station on the homepage showing no active transportation infrastructure and more traffic than you will ever see on that overpass is personally really disheartening though.

Not sure if this had been confirmed already but looks like Line 2 and 4 operating hours will not match Line 1. Service ends at midnight Mon-Sat and 11:30pm on Sun (which, hilariously, is actually 30 min longer than Line 1).

I guess they’ve officially changed Kichi Zìbì station to be in line with the NCC’s spelling of the parkway.

Will they do the same for the lookout and Ward? Let's keep it consistent.

Looking over the report to the LRT Sub-Committee (27-Oct-2023), and I have a question:

Does anyone know when they swapped Line 1 and Line 3?

According to the report:
East/West Connectors (EWC) was awarded the contract to design, build, and finance
the Confederation Line extensions. The project will extend Line 1 from Blair Station to
Trim Station in the east and from Tunney’s Pasture Station to Moodie Station (Line 1),
and to Baseline Station (Line 3).
So, the current update says that Line 1 goes from Trim, in the east, to Moodie, in the west; and that Line 3 goes from Trim to Baseline, in the west.

This is the opposite of what had previously been announced:

It is possible that this is just an error in the report. I find it hard to believe that Line 1 would be the one that is truncated during low periods, Moodie to Lincoln Fields, while Line 3 runs continuously. Although, in the grand scheme of things, I don't suppose that the numbers matter. I was just wondering if the change was real, and when it happened.

Looks like an error. The new-ish O-Train extension website still shows Line 1 to Algonquin and Line 3 to Moodie. The report also calls Algonquin station "Baseline" despite the name having been changed for a couple of years now.

Probably just a case of the report being drafted by one of those inattentive, incompetent staffers so common in the public service.

Trillium Line really should have been Line 1 and Confederation Line Line 2. Not only did the Trillium line come first, it also goes with some conventions that north-south routes are odd-numbered and east-west routes even. The original #1 bus also plied Bank Street, the #2 did the Richmond-Rideau-Montreal Road route.

I agree that the numbering of the O-Train lines seemed quite arbitrary, and, to my mind too, the numbering is backwards. At least they kept some consistency by bundling the even- and odd-numbered lines (even if they are reversed).

I believe that a lot more thought could be put into ALL of the ways that OC Transpo presents its service to the public. Public transit is something that needs to be a choice that people enjoy.

Does anyone remember ‘TransART’? I know that someone does because they asked about the fiberglass symbols that used to be mounted along the Scott Trench.

Yes, there is now art included in stations, and that is a good thing – especially the information plaques. But those big displays are quite static. How about adding some fun things along the routes? Halloween is coming; so maybe a few lit spooky figures in the tunnels. And, move the decorations around, so that people have to look for them, or ‘stumble’ across a surprise. Oooh, and maybe a specially decorated ‘Ghost Bus’ with ‘black-lights’ instead of the regular fluorescents, that travels randomly on night runs near Halloween. And, other celebrations throughout the year could be marked by decorations within the tunnel, in stations, and on buses. (I know people who liked to spot the ‘Pride Bus’ when it was out.)

I understand that there is the fear of offending someone if OC Transpo buts up any decorations that aren’t purely secular, but think, for a minute, about how grocery stores do it. Grocery stores simply recognize every celebration they can. And it becomes a selling point.

OC Transpo could feature celebrations from around the world, and present information about them. It would actually be a draw for people to use transit. Possible station signage: “Heading east from here, you may see some illuminated symbols which traditionally represent aspects of . . .” Or for some fun at Halloween: “If you encounter any ghosts or goblins during your trip, please do not worry; they are friendly. They only inhabit the tunnel when they visit for Halloween.”

I liked the idea of having each car of the Confederation Line individually named. I hope that that continues, and is expanded to the Trillium Line. However, how about taking it up a notch? Anyone familiar with Walt Disney World (WDW) will likely know that there are collectible cards of its transit system. There is big demand for the various colours of Monorail trains, and even cards detailing the various buses used. OC Transpo could print cards of the various bus and train vehicles, which include some fascinating information about the name or vehicle, and maybe facts about OC Transpo. Similar to at WDW, OC Transpo representatives would have a pocket of the cards in the morning, and give 1 or 2 out if asked. The media could get the ball rolling by hyping it up a bit. (The media needs more content, so it should be good with talking about it.)

Adding fun, surprising, things to see and do while enduring the daily drudgery of the commute could make it more of an event. Something to look forward to. It doesn’t need to cost a lot, and it could include outside agencies. (How about OC Transpo chatting with choral groups, school bands, dance schools, etc. to perform ‘pop-up’ or ‘Flash-Mob’ events on trains and in stations?)

I still remember some of the ‘TransPOETRY’ that used to appear in buses: “Oh what a tangled web we weave, when by the forward door we leave.”

‘Make Transit Fun Again!’ MTFA

I said this before, but I figured that they should’ve used letters for the trains so that they could’ve kept the bus numbering the same. For splits on the same route, they could’ve just had a numerical suffix (ex B1 for trains, going to/from Algonquin and B2 for those going to/from Moodie). That ship sailed a long time ago though.

There were two sets of bus poetry, one was artsy, and the other one was fun attempts at social engineering.

Speaking of the latter:

When boarding on transit
Don't be a lout
Don't push your way IN
Till the others get OUT

(This lesson seems lost on Ottawans.)
