The bridge was never engineered prior to starting work. It was a huge election promise that backfired. So you really cant compare the 2. If you listen to the managers of the ministry off the record they were caught off guard when there was a huge press release as every geotech report prior to the bi press release said the soil will not support the bridge and there could not be a $ figure attached. This would have turned into another money pit. Similar to what metro Vancouver has had with several of their projects. The NDP went back to what engineering supported. And regardless what Falcon says in a press release that this would be year 2 driving over it that is 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 as this span would have been plagued with supply chain issues money issues and Covid delays.
Don't forget the liberals had to back track on the 3P port Mann bridge as it was stalled out for over a year and the ministry had to pick up Miqures group portion and turn it into government debt.
The bigger question was why did the liberals not want to deal with the pattelo bridge? which is in a state of failure with bandage repair on bandage repair.
