The SJ ones are on transit routes or very close by. The KV ones serve an important purpose, that being older folks that downsize have options to remain in their community where they already have ties.

The problem with transit in small places like Saint John is you just don't have enough demand to allow a frequent and convenient schedule.

Thankfully in these areas we are switching to on demand service with FLEX service

Exciting to SMR development in the city beginning. Between this and the Port, the city should be in for a pretty significant influx of high paying jobs.

Hopefully the cluster of suppliers will choose SJ to locate.

The design of these are being made a simplistic as possible , so most of the suppliers for the refinery and paper mills would just have a new line of work, so maybe just a few more members on staff for the heavy industry groups in town.

Why has Postmedia been aggressively counter-signaling SMRs and conventional reactors in the TJ lately? Even Holt has had to reverse course and support them and Coon has mostly refrained from fearmongering.

What’s the opinion in paper? Don’t have a subscription but based on headline is pretty unsupportive.

The strange apartment project approved over neighbouring subdivision objections at 1429 Loch Lomond is making even more revisions. The original approved project was 82 total units in IIRC 3-4 3-storey buildings.

The new version is 2x 40 unit buildings which they want to build simultaneously on the western side, and 24 town homes they intend to sell on the east side- 104 units.

It would be nice to see Inverness and Norman connect to this project but apparently it will just be a cul de sac.

AllNewBrunswick News is reporting that a buyer promises a makeover for an "ugly" Saint John building. Anyone know what building they are referring to?

I was so disappointed to learn it's just the ReStore's warehouse.

Oh. Yeah, they've sold the building/property and are moving their store from their current building into the space next to Cineplex, (the old Mark's).

These 3 project listings, (on the ConstructConnect upcoming construction projects database), have been updated yesterday Oct.13th 2023. All three are private developments.
  • A new apartments/retail stores development valued at $29-million. Start date is October 2024.
  • A new apartments/retail stores development valued at $22-million. Start date is November 2023.
  • A new huge mixed-use development valued at $91-million. Start date of June 2026.

The November one is probably Fundy Quay or East Point. Unless Percy pulls a surprise start date out. Can’t see it being anything else as nothing in PAC or council.

All three of these could be Fundy Quay. However, the one with offices and community/club could also be 99 King, though I doubt it. Given the plans and staged approach (and budgets), I suspect this is the full set of buildings they are looking to get budgets and proposals for. Which if it is the case, is promising given they have set dates and are progressing to the contracting RFP stage!

I've noticed that the excavator at East Point hasn't moved in what seems like a few months. They were doing a lot of digging next to PetSmart and it's seems to have stalled again.

Beside the PetSmart is supposed to be the last piece of the Sobey's big-box block, right? The apartment buildings will be across East Point Way to the southeast.
