Sort of back in the Business Express Saab 340 days. They were a BEX codeshare partner as were DL and NW, but BEX was a DL-first connector and their livery was similar to other DL connectors like Comair and (some of) ASA.

That sounds about right. I remember when I was flying to BOS in the early 2000’s choosing AC, because they used a CRJ (back when they were relatively new and nice to fly on). I seemed to remember AA was the other option but it was a turbo prop (I couldn’t remember the model) so it took longer.

I loved the Saab 340, more than the Dash 8, mainly for the single seat on the left side.

AF328 declared an emergency, squawked 7700 and returned to CDG this morning: https://www.flightaware.com/live/flight/AFR328

AF327 is showing a three-hour delay on the YOW FIDs.

AC dropped their CDG price in January and February from YOW massively. Like dirt cheap. Either they are trying to kill AF or it’s because of low bookings due to the bed bugs. $386 showing up as round trip. Still not enough for me to choose them over the direct $750 round trip with AF, they’d have to make it free to be honest.

And the business class price for the same AC flights you are quoting is still $8000 round trip in Jan/Feb!

They are trying to kill AF. Even some dates in Nov/early Dec priced this way. Nov 21-Nov 28, $378 through YUL and $386 through YYZ. Change the origin to YYZ/YUL and it jumps to ~$600 RT for the non-stops.

Air France is still competitive price wise on some secondary European destinations in January/February. One move they could try is running a bus from Montreal to yow and give Montreal the same discount.🤭

I saw that too. FCO is still cheaper with AF from YOW for example. It looks like these dirt cheap prices are just for CDG from what I see. AC will fail if this is their strategy.

It's a shot over their bow without a full price war. AC's Paris traffic from Ottawa must have evaporated and they do need a significant discount to grab market share back. This is aggressive. $400 return to Paris is really unprecedented. $200 of that is probably tax. Maybe it's a warning not to go daily .

AC Yow-Yul-Cdg price is incredibly low at $386 in January and February. But is AC handcuffed by their volume of seats available with Ottawa-Montreal evening flights.? If they increased capacity to Montreal that would be telling. People from Ottawa connecting in Yul are going in a hundred different directions.?

I love how AC feels threatened. Wonder how many more of these discounts are going to show up for North American destinations when Porter gets to them from YOW. They are done here and I’m all for it.

I noticed on the few random dates I checked the outbound flight has connection options in both YUL/YYZ for cheap but the return flight was only via YYZ, YUL cheap connection involved an overnight layover for the AM YUL-YOW flight on Rouge.

I can guarantee you that AC is not threatened at all.

Jan/Feb are the weakest months to Europe. Trust me when I tell you AC doesn't need pax from YOW to fill up its flights from YUL to CDG.

I think they are. Or else there would be no reason for these aggressive prices. 80k pax per year from YOW to CDG. How many flights can that fill? I’ll leave the math to you. If they don’t need YOW, then they should back the heck off and let AF thrive.

Has anyone else also noticed the AC radio ads that have been popping up suddenly? I listen to it every morning on the way to work but just recently began to notice them. Their slogan is “why look anywhere else?”. Pretty sure Ottawa residents can give multiple reasons

While there is a pilot shortage, AC is trying to fly as many people people as possible on each plane without totally abandoning any airports. They are attempting to do this by routing almost everyone through their hubs. It also doesn’t help that AC doesn’t yet have an equivalent replacement for the 767. They likely see AF as a huge threat to this strategy here in Ottawa and I suspect that there biggest fear is that it becomes so successful that KLM starts operating a YOW-AMS flight and Porter joins Skyteam. Both of those (not just one) might be enough for many Aeroplan members in Ottawa to switch to Skyteam, as they can get points/status for flights all around the world. Undercutting AF on economy seats much just hurt AF’s load factor enough to make KLM have reservations about flying to YOW. Once you loose a customer, it’s difficult to get them back.

^ Couldn't have said it better myself to the above 2 posts.

I am hoping this does not prevent AF from going daily next summer Even though AC is pretty much giving away CDG flights from YOW, there are still lots of secondary European destinations on AF that are still cheaper from what I see on a quick Google Flights search.
