This is one of the shorter 2 towers of the project, yeah? It already seems quite tall, and adds some serious bulk to that part of the city. The other developments that are closeby are going to create a pretty significant skyline in this little area, and make the city appear bigger and more impressive to folks passing through when travelling the Trans-Canada...

Never had a sidewalk before? Regardless, sidewalks on both sides of the street should be standard. Anywhere in the City. Bike lanes on any main or secondary artery should also be standard for any new road built. Why do we continue to invest so much on roads, yet so little for those who aren't in cars is beyond me.

The working plans are showing 3 more or less identical towers to this one. This is phase 1. Phase 4/5? will be a taller set of cylinder shaped towers. Post #65 on page 4 is the most up to date rendering I think we have of the entire project.

I think the tower looks taller than it is since it has a good floor plate to height ratio, at least for Ottawa. A decent amount of glass and a broken up rectangle shape help with this. I like how the broad side of the building cuts back from the center.

This and the Nelson Dairy development will really make the city seem larger off the 417. It's already starting to bulk up the view of the city with what is here now, it's going to look stellar once everything is all built up in both areas.

Agreed. For proposals west of this location close to the 417, we have the 4 towers on Woodridge by Bayshore station, Dumaurier, 2 towers at Carling and Churchill, 2 under construction a little further west on Carling. That's just off the top of my head.

Wonder why the commercial space is showing for lease. I thought Shoppers was supposed to move into the bottom of this building once it was done.

I took a peek inside that retail space, and it doesn’t seem right for the Shoppers Drug Mart, especially a 24-hour one. It’ not as big as the current one and it’s an irregular shape. Also, since it’s right against the driveway into the mall, you’ll have to cross traffic to get to the entrance from the parking lot. Sure there’s a few spots in the back, but it’s somewhat out of character for a SDM to have an entrance that’s not in full view from the street. A lot of people use this store as an after-hours grocery (they even carry some fresh meat and produce) and I almost think this development will drive SDM out of there if there isn’t the same level of convenience (with plans to turn the parking into a park), or downgrade it to a regular 14-hour store.

I heard from someone at the mall that this is a 🞵🞵🞵🞵 show. SDM was supposed to move into this space and their current location was the next to be demolished and tower built. They told me that SDM didn't like something about the space and are refusing to move so they are looking for other tenants. I know TD is going to be taking up a large chunk but I haven't heard any others.

I don't know how a big company like Shoppers could get this far in the development process and not know whether this space would work for them or not.....sounds like a BIG oversight of some kind.

The first tower is exactly 86m from base to architectural tip (top of mechanical penthouse), as measured with newest google imagery. A full 10m taller than we have listed.

Today while out cycling I did a quick walk about the exterior of the Rhythm tower. No activity on the ground floor retail but one large poster indicates Westgate Optometry coming soon.

Wonder when phase 1 might start. It's supposed to be a similar tower on the western portion where the Shoppers Drug Mart is right now.

Since it's attached to the mall, I wonder if they plan on demolishing the whole mall all at once, or just the Shoppers and temporarily closing the mall at that end?

It would be, but as far as I can tell, it's all ground floor retail/commercial.

They really should have built a two storey commercial space along the entire podium. The way they designed it, looks like a suburban big box strip mall, especially the single storey nub at the end.
