What's with this call to "ban" or punish someone for a contradictory argument? As I followed it, the argument was whether or not Beltline LRT has been funded, and the budget indicates that Libertarian was correct. MARTA's 10-year projection shows five years of funding (FY24 - FY28) to extend the Street Car eastward, presumably to the the Beltline. But no funds are projected in any of the next 10 years for Beltline LRT. That news might be unpopular, but it is accurate.

Calls for banning certain users for sharing a different opinion are off base

I disagree with the argument that the Beltline LRT extension won't happen in the next 10 years. I strongly believe construction will begin by 2025/2026.

But that's not the point. I also disagree with calls to ban people for expressing a different opinion. As long as there are no insults, vulgarity or name calling, then users can express their opinion, even if it's one we disagree with.

If you don't like certain opinions on the board, you can ignore them and continue reading until you find on you agree with or post your own.

It in fact is not accurate, because the extension east puts rail ON the beltline, as anyone who had bother to read any plans, or clicked through the link given to the Eastside project would know. This is seriously years old info.

You are correct and no one ever said otherwise. The extension is east from Jackson St. along Edgewood and then contiguous to the Beltline over to Ponce which is a distance of about 2 miles, of which 1.5 miles is Beltline and all funded on paper. The cost per mile is extremely excessive. Let's see how it unfolds, how the big Siemens streetcars (certainly not optimal equipment) interact with current foot traffic and what are rider numbers on the most dense stretch. It'll be interesting to see if budgeted funds are available and prove adequate to fulfillment in this inflationary setting. I guess additional funds will be needed to complete the loop along Ponce and back to downtown.

When have you ever seen someone standing in the middle of the grassy areas of the beltline? I have never seen anybody. And for crossings with the LRT it will work just like it works when the beltline is crossing roads. People will stop when there is traffic and/or the light is red and walk when it is clear and safe to do so. It should be much safer to not be hit by a single vehicle passing every 10-15minutes than it is to deal with a stream of cars.

It's literally in the quote. What other distinction can there be between "to the beltline" and the no funding for the next 10 years for "Beltline LRT". The segment from Irwin St to PCM is Beltline LRT. It just is. It's only a small part, and that's a major concern. But it is beltline LRT. And the documentation does show that there is funding for it in the next 10 years

Y'all spend pages eating each other alive about the definition of "Beltline LRT," meanwhile no one is asking why MARTA has failed to deliver an inch of it after nearly a decade.

It's the Clifton Corridor all over again. That one's been going on for over a decade, and MARTA has spent god knows how many millions of dollars on studying it, only to come to the conclusion that it's going to be a 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 bus route, which they're now starting another study for.

Wake up, people. Seriously.

This forum is exhausting. Y'all need to chill. It makes me less likely to want to post construction updates and planning permit updates.

It's either crying about a building not being tall enough or pointless bickering

I wish there was a really good reddit sub for atlanta development

It is sad how little political will there is for investment in transit.

Consider the lowball estimate if every person in Metro ATL owns a $20k car with 6 million folks that is $120 billion dollars invested into personal car travel individually. And the fact of the matter is that $20k these days is low, I feel like $50k is more accurate and that is $300 billion. And this is not even factoring in yearly costs of insurance, fuel, the money the state and the federal gubmint spends on roads.

Meanwhile we have to scrounge for coins to fund transit on the beltline that is under $10billion for the total build out.

+1 to all of these. i did follow bcballard.atl too, and it's good source but discovered that they're anti-beltline rail, which is a shame

I live on Irwin Street where the street car will travel for a very short distance before turning onto the Beltline. I can't help but feel that the anti street car folks are being a bit classist. I was able to get where I am today financially by not having a car but I couldn't rely on public transit either. I biked everywhere. It's not like I could afford a taxi just because it was raining. I'm at a very different place these days since I was an early OldFourthWard, 2001 home buyer. The transit in this city is horrible and with these rental prices I cannot image that there aren't more people that are currently in the position I was. The people who rely on public transit really need transit options more than the rest of us that are above the need for it need that strip of Beltline green space. Sure I will hate to see some of the greenery and trees go but when it's all complete we will have a piece of transit infrastructure to be proud of... and I fully understand the street car infrastructure that has been built is nowhere near something to be proud of but this extension will be different.

Just because idiots aren't for improved transportation doesn't mean we should follow them. I can get some idiots together and say they need to close the airport and close the Mercedes Benz stadium and make up a reason for it and that doesn't mean it should close. We have to look at the improvements and the overall growth from that improvement. I think when MARTA first started I think they just had a couple stations on the blue line. What if the same people, the same idiots said the same thing back in the 1970s and the city actually listened....we would only have about 3 or 4 MARTA stations today with no airport or Downtown, etc lines. We would have never got the olympics either

Does anyone know when MARTA will actually introduce the new rail cars to the public? I distinctly remember 2023 as the year taxpayers/riders would get the chance to experience what we're getting for our $$$.
