YOW - 0

Based on previous summers, new routes should account for maybe 2-3 extra planes, so looking like Flair is not getting new plane any time soon?

Full route list base on flight numbering:

YOW - YHZ(6)

All YOW flights will be handled by YYZ base
Wow so only YOW-YHZ for the current mid-summer schedule? Huge cuts there. No more YWG, YYC, YEG, YVR, or the weekly YYJ.

I wonder if they will cut some YOW-Florida flying with PD adding flights to those markets.

A chilly 5C in Moncton at 9 AM and sunny, going up to 18C this afternoon.

It got down to +2.4C overnight, and there is a risk of frost tonight too, before warming up for the remainder of the forecast period. Wall to wall sunshine - the best period of nice weather in the city since May.

So far for the winter all of the YOW-sun flying on F8 is unchanged with service ending the first week of May on all of them.

F8 have also cut the YOW-YYC November flying.

If that indeed is the final YOW summer schedule with just YHZ 6x weekly, that is a gigantic capacity cut. A net drop of 20 weekly (going from memory of this past summer's YOW schedule). PD will need to add 4 daily new E-Jet flights to just make up for that, let alone any net capacity growth - they're already at +1 with YEG. YYC, YWG and YYT are just a question of when, let alone others.

That aircraft count is only 19. Didn't they have 21 last summer? I wonder if they're still finalizing how many 7M8s with their Bonza exchange they'll actually be getting this summer?

We’ll wait and see, I don’t think Flair would suddenly shutter their YOW base. They might be waiting to finalize the number of aircraft they’ll be getting for the summer. Time will tell though.

Interesting that YLW that was poised to be announced right before PD changed course to grab YOW-YEG to themselves this winter is now not showing up at all. I'm surely they'll be at YLW eventually either way. YDF would seem like a plausible domestic city too, at least on a summer seasonal basis.

Remind me again are these numbers just AC or all of Star Alliance at each airport?

Also pretty interesting they won't look at Hamilton, Waterloo, London ON to help feed the Ottawa Hub? these cities would also have a fair amount of demand to Ottawa.

Guess they want people to keep going to Pearson or the island.

Oh but the Hamilton warehouse…errr, terminal…is too utilitarian and simple for their sophisticated, high brow clientele and staff! I mean it only has a Tim Hortons and doesn’t even have a lounge!

Flair shuttering YOW base.

This is flair's second base closure this year, the other being YXX.

Internal Email:

"One of the most challenging and dynamic parts of airlines is that our assets are mobile, and we must position our aircraft in geographies that have the highest return for the company as a whole - this means starting in Summer 2024 having a greater presence in the GTA."

Sure looks flair is trying to fix their balance sheet.

Additionally, Bonza will not be sending sending Flair extra frames next summer due to them not having enough frames of their own.

Yes. Hamilton can and should do better.

Quebec City is an example of a smaller airport that has a fantastic lounge. It covers triple duty as a jointly branded Air Canada lounge, Priority Pass, AMEX lounge. A great example of how a smaller airport can offer such minimal amenities to meet Porter standards.

It is terrible, but Victoria airport also does not have a lounge. They at least have decent coffee (The Fickle Fig) to augment the mandatory Tim Hortons. My guess is decent coffee makes up for the lack of a lounge and allows Porter to justify minimal service levels.

I am also surprised they have not started Saskatoon yet. Yes, the lounge is exclusive Maple Leaf (disappointing I know). The Tim Horton is usually open, but the Starbucks has very restrictive hours. Certain their hours could be extended to cover the Porter passengers.

AC adds YYZ-CHS for S24, 1x daily E75 starting March 28.

I don't think this route existed before the pandemic?

No, but Savannah was served for a year or 2.

Smart add. Clearly aimed at 6th freedom traffic. CHS is a wealthy area with a booming economy. IT/Tech, Aviation (Boeing), automotive (Mercedes-Benz) etc.

The airport surpassed their 2019 passenger numbers by almost 10% last year already, and let's not forget BA briefly flew there from LHR in 2019 as well.

AC clearly wants a piece of the international pie out of CHS.

New APPR regulations expected before the year's end.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/canada-airlines-compensation-rules-1.6982838

Quote:
The changes appear to scrap a loophole through which airlines have denied customers compensation for flight delays or cancellations when they were required for safety purposes.

...

Proposed changes under the Air Passenger Protection Regulations would not exempt flight disruptions that are caused by "normal ... technical problems" from cash penalties given to customers.

However, "airport operational issues" or "hidden manufacturing defects" would be considered beyond the airline's responsibility under the would-be reforms, most of which are still months away from being finalized.
Everyone from airlines to labor unions are complaining about it, with a pretty stupid argument, frankly. It's about time the loophole is closed.

It's also kind of ironic that WestJet CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech is one of the people complaining the most, when 2 of his airlines (Sunwing and Swoop) are the worst in Canada in terms of number of passenger complaints per 100 flights.

https://otc-cta.gc.ca/eng/air-travel-complaints-100-flights-airline-april-2022-june-2023

On a side note, some of those foreign airlines in that list seem pretty bad. (QR, AT, MS and EY particulary, with anywhere from 22 to 31 complaints per 100 flights each)

They can complain all they want. Anyway at the end of the day it’s the passengers that will just end up paying for it in higher airfares.
