A big hint is if you are going for top quality you are not going to be serving Grade B factory made frozen crinkle cut fries. Perhaps they make the chicken fingers fresh in house but they then cook them to the point they are dried out and almost flavorless. Give my chain chicken over them any day of the week.

Yeah I had Mitzi’s for the first time last year and was seriously underwhelmed for all the hype.

See, you are not heavily steeped in nostalgia on the place having gone their with your grandparents as a toddler or similar. The appeal of Mitzi's is 99% nostalgia, 1% the quality of the food.

I'm curious from the forumers- what is your favorite restaurant in the city and outside Winnipeg? The reason I ask is that I am always looking for new and exciting places for our colleagues when they are here from out of town.

What would you recommend? I was just at Preservation Hall for the second time and I forgot how good it was in my opinion. I also love Sous Sol.

I'm pretty fond of Nola, Cordova's, and Tabula Rasa for small shared plate dinners. Not sure whether that works well with business contacts as well as it does with dates, friends, or family.

Cibo and Corrientes are both solid choices for getting your own discrete meals. The food is also genuinely good at Nonsuch, so don't right that one off as being pub food.

Gates on Roblin always has a soft spot in my heart. The food probably isn’t the best, but pulling up there still feels different than going to many joints.

Cafe Carlo on Lilac, just around the corner from Corydon. Dinners only except for Friday when lunch also served.

Though I find that Winnipeggers often take it for granted (or even chose to hate it) I think Stella's is about as good a casual breakfast spot as you'll find anywhere in the country. I try to visit every time I'm back in town.

Since they shut down the Sherbook location due to unionizing I haven't gone to Stellas, much as we enjoyed it.

Just had Jersey Mike's Subs in Ontario (really good), they're also planning to expand across Canada but I don't think they'll be as aggressive as Firehouse Subs.

Ideal spot for a couple high rise apartment towers. Close to major bus routes, close to the university, easy access to downtown and major shopping areas, airport is a fairly quick drive away.

Too bad about the gas station and macdonalds nearby, those should also get redeveloped. The irony is that if there were a bunch of residents on site, a restaurant might almost be viable.

I have to imagine that the super lube across the street is living on borrowed time too. It's on a huge parcel of land thats gotten a lot more valuable in recent years
