The burger place was decent in Vegas, but probably not worth the $$ on a regular basis.

It was surprisingly really good and I'm hopeful it'll be successful here. I mean plenty of places especially "gastropubs" charge exorbitant amounts for a soggy mess of a burger and they survive.

Seems like Tacofino is dumping their Cordova location

Quote:
Corbel Commercial is pleased to present a unique investment, owner-occupier and redevelopment opportunity to purchase a high-profile restaurant-class 1 property* in a prime location in the heart of Gastown with significant future growth.

15 W Cordova Street is located in historic Gastown, directly adjacent to the newly developed Blood Alley Development and across from the future Cohen Block Development. It is currently leased to Tacofino, an exceptionally well-known local eatery with multiple locations across the Lower Mainland, with a loyal customer base, and is neighboured to some of Vancouver’s Michelin-recommended restaurants including L'Abattoir and PIDGIN. The property features:

• A fully fixtured Class-1 restaurant asset of approximately 3,000 SF of rentable area (Approx.)
• An outdoor patio off Blood Alley

But they're also marketing it as a possible owner-occupier restaurant.

There is one in Seoul South Korea.

koreatimes.co.kr

There were some renderings of the Coquitlam location but can't find em now, but I think it must be taking over the old restaurants spot which is separate from the Casino. Also the casino itself has being doing some changes, they lowered what was an elevated section near what used to be a bar or restaurant inside the casino on the north side and moved some slots there and where the slots used to be is currently having something done, perhaps more slots, its not space enough for much.

B.C. pub chain the Donnelly Group seeks creditor protection

The Donnelly Group, which owns pubs and clubs that are fixtures in Vancouver’s nightlife and hospitality industry, is filing for creditor protection.

The Vancouver-based company, which operates more than a dozen pubs, clubs and restaurants in Vancouver and Toronto under the Freehouse Collective, said Wednesday it has started proceedings under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA) to revise the terms of existing loans and restructure debt it needed to take on to survive COVID-19.....

....In a petition filed in B.C. Supreme Court on Tuesday, the company asked the court to appoint Ernst & Young as a monitor over its affairs as it works out a restructuring plan with its creditors.

The petition involves 12 pubs, cocktail clubs and restaurants in Vancouver — including the Lamplighter, Butcher & Bullock, and Brass Fish — and two in Toronto, as well as three Barber & Co barbershops, Bomber Brewing in East Vancouver, and a company that handles the cleaning of the hospitality venues.

In total, 750 people are employed in Freehouse’s hospitality venues, 40 at Bomber Brewing, and 25 at Barber & Co.....

Oh that really is quite exciting news, some locals travel to Seattle to eat there. Say what you want about how many Chinese restaurants are already in Vancouver but this one is quite unique and there is definitely a strong niche to be filled here.

"Beest" restaurant which is at Robson and Bute (across lane from BC liquor store) announced via their instagram they are "temporarily suspending operations". A mere 2 months after opening.

Wondering if they will reopen... not that I tried it or it ever looked that busy but always wonder about these restaurants that never open or only open for a short period...

Meh. I've been to the one in Sydney NSW and nothing local restaurants don't do just as well. It thrives on the name, which makes it a perfect fit for Alberni Street.

Sign is up for a new Tacofino location in the Station Square tower 5 podium facing McKay Avenue. A nice suprise and great to see restaurants expanding also on this side of the complex. Pür & Simple next door has been a great addition on this side, too.

Yeah - it was weird that they posted that and then reopened the next day. Closed indefinitely to me means for a long time - not until the next day LOL.

Starbucks is closing their only unionized store in Vancouver as "the lease is expiring" and "wasn’t possible to make necessary investments to renovate it" (?!) How convenient.

I would love to see how much their sales as a whole have declined in the city since December 2019.

Unionized Starbucks store in Vancouver to close as lease expires

One of the few unionized Starbucks SBUX-Q -1.18%decrease
stores in British Columbia is closing at the end of September.

Leanna Rizzi, a spokeswoman for the coffee chain, confirmed the closure of the Dunbar Street location in Vancouver via e-mail, saying it’s due to a natural lease expiry.

She says the store is one of the smallest in the Starbucks portfolio, and it wasn’t possible to make necessary investments to renovate it, but workers will have the opportunity to transfer to a nearby location....

Two new options @ Granville Island Market right in front of Terra Breads

1- https://www.northernbars.ca/ a premium Nanaimo bar operation (no I'm not making that up).

I give them less than a year.

2- https://labisebakery.com/ offering canelés - they look good as a special occasion treat.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In other GIM news the Toast & Jam place looks to be on it's last legs already I suppose they underestimated the number of people willing to pay $6 for a jar of jam the size of your thumb
