I had meant to post a video of downtown Kelowna last week, but forgot about it. The fire reminded me that I have footage of the westside mountains five days before they were reduced to ash.

There's a forest fire that has just started tonight in Greater Victoria... The Highlands/Langford area.

I'm so sorry, jackko. My heart goes out to you. That's just terrible.

My friend lost his home in Trader's Cove as well. Once this fire is under control, I'm going to head to Kelowna to see what I can do to help him and his family.

Nice to see another Olson Kundig design in Kelowna! If you haven't checked out his work at Martin Lane Winery, I HIGHLY recommend it.

Jackko sorry to hear about your place, what a devastating few days in the Okanagan.

We had the fire lick the backyards in our neighbourhood, but fortunately didn't lose any structures here. Wishing you all the best.

So I was in Kelowna literally 2 days before the fire.

I drove in from Vernon at around 11pm, the entire way the temp was above 30 (hitting as high as 34 in spots). Driving along the lakeshore / hillsides at night in that heat was amazing, it felt like I was driving along the Baha.

Anyways, the next day was pretty nice, hazy, but could still feel the sun strong in the sky. Was about 37. I took the drone out and still got some decent pics.

I'm an odd person where I actually enjoy a little haze at times in the summer, gives it an LA / California vibe. Maybe that is just from growing up watching so many films made in LA and the warm feeling the setting always has with the haze.

Downtown is definitely looking a lot more dense these days with a nice mix of mid and high rises.

Great photos Metro-One!

Will be interesting to see how downtown shapes up as the core gets wrapped up by the Water Street by the Park towers. Sadly it seems like there's no news of the Westcorp downtown hotel tower.

Is it me or does the Ella building just feel out of place? Maybe that'll change as downtown fills up a bit more.

The office tower of Bernard block must look pretty mediocre from street level seeing how the main photo only showed the glass portion and the podium is out of the frame. 😆

Googlemaps also updated its streetview in August this year, hence you can see many of the updated images from above along the major streets before the scourge of the Kelowna fires. This is great as for many years the street views were rather smoggy.

Great to finally have an updated Google Street view! I was there for work in July but didn't get enough time to explore. Last time I was downtown for any amount of time was last summer. I think it's the scale of new mid-rise development that is more impressive even than the new high-rise projects.

I agree, also, as much as I love new developments and seeing towers being built in Kelowna, I really didn't like the design of this building. Wish some developers would put more effort into the architecture and make it look unique, or at least not a plain rectangle! The towers usually look better once they are built, but this one kinda looks like a prison to me haha

New application submitted to construct three towers in the Prospera parking lot. The application is for a text amendment (so no development permit at this time) in order to increase the building heights on the subject property from 12 storeys & 44 metres to: Tower One 13 storeys & 48 metres, Tower Two 22 storeys & 81 metres, and Tower Three 26 storeys & 95.0 metres.

Seems like a design change for less height but more towers. I like the direction of the design. It keeps the uneven patios from the original, but the change of materials to include more rust/coppery beige is a better fit for Kelowna. I'm glad we're seeing more buildings with material tones that reflect the Okanagan landscape as opposed to copy and pasting Lower Mainland material boards. Don't love the two tone spandrel though.

I hope there is enough of a buffer between the proposed towers and prospera place to accommodate a larger arena in the future. It sure looks tight to me... Whether they tear it down or just expand/reno it down the road, it seems inevitable they will need a larger arena eventually, given Kelowna's growth rate.
