I was surprised to see Bronson EB open on Saturday. It looks like there's more to do, it hasn't changed much from before.

Kent EB closes this week.

Travelling EB from Carling to Parkdale is a mess. Want to exit on Parkdale? Nope, get the hell over, then get back over.

I know it's all going to be widened. Can't have those ugly rusty sound walls.

EB ramp at Kent (there's no WB ramp there) will close for three months from Sept 15 - Dec 22.

Zéro, and they have done nothing to deal with the complete lack of safe pedestrian and cyclist detours. It’s amazing how unresponsive the MTO is. They make no concessions for the fact that they are working in the centre of a city.

I suspect that the MTO doesn't consider Ottawa to be a city, so the location is irrelevant. Besides, the MTO is actually more like the MMVO (Ministry of Motor Vehicles of Ontario), as they consider pedestrians and cyclists to be obstacles that get in the way of motor vehicles.

The second part’s probably more accurate than the first. Even in Toronto, 401 has 0 pedestrian overpasses (unless there are pedestrian underpasses that escape my view). In fact, I’m actually surprised to see pedestrian overpasses in Ottawa (and in North Bay).

The only one that comes to mind is the one in Pickering, it is a huge one I think its for the Go Train
Probably a bunch of underpasses along Humber, Credit, Don River Valleys...

There are many crossing opportunities on the 401 in the GTA (not saying they are great pedestrian/cycling environments though).

I can think of at least two AT bridges over the 401:
Pickering GO Pedestrian Bridge
Second Line Bridge

By my estimate, that is about 80km between AT bridges, and none are in Toronto proper. I struggle to think of a single decent crossing in Toronto itself.

There is a trail crossing under the 401 at Weston Rd:

https://www.google.com/maps/@43.7129...!1e3?entry=ttu

also near the airport:

https://www.google.com/maps/@43.6545...!1e3?entry=ttu

a dedicated trail along Church St in Ajax:

https://www.google.com/maps/@43.8467...!1e3?entry=ttu

and one more trail crossing in Oshawa:

https://www.google.com/maps/@43.8808...!1e3?entry=ttu

They aren't a dime-a-dozen, but there aren't 0 either.

Generally, MTO is famously hostile to pedestrians and active tranportation on it's corridors, though it has been getting better recently. Most interchange reconstructions make room for dedicated multi-use-path crossings.

Only one of those is in Toronto proper, and it's a recreational trail rather than a transportation link. I think that says it all about the MTO's approach to active transportation.

Too bad the 417 is not elevated everywhere in Ottawa.
As it is, it blocks many north-south connections, for cars and pedestrians.

Elevated freeways, like A40 through Montreal, aren’t cheap, so MTO’s opted for retaining walls instead.
Maintenance can also be annoying.

Did the MTO pay for any of the pedestrian crossings in Ottawa?

It didn’t…?
That might be why there are so many pedestrian overpasses in Ottawa, which is rare for Ontario.

Google Maps shows Highway 417 Westbound Pinecrest off-ramp is open. Is that so?

I knew it was coming. Surprised it wasn't plastered all over the news. Sutcliffe ribbon cutting.
