If only there was someone on this site that could take pictures of the skywalk installation.

It is hard to ask people because so many from Winnipeg are Grumpy.

Mike McIntyre (free press sports writer) was on a podcast yearlier this week and mentioned that Sutton Place hotel will be one 30 story building instead of the 2 buildings orginally planned.

I don't quite know if that is how already built foundations work, but you never know.

Could that mean they're just building on one pad and leaving the other one empty, that would be very "Winnipeg" of them.

Both buildings were to be built on one podium, I’d imagine if there is only one building the podium would remain the same, spanning the whole site with the parkade located inside and the tower centred in the middle. It would move it away from the Wawanesa wall allowing more light to penetrate the hotel rooms.

Unless they vastly over-built the foundation, there is really no feasible way to go from ~15 stories to ~30 stories on a foundation designed for ~15 stories.

Unless maybe they are gonna building this thing out of wood. But even then, a lot of physics will need to be defeated.

If you could disperse the weight of the 30 storey building equally over both foundations designed for 15 stories, would that be able to support the structure? I know nothing about engineering but I know 15 + 15 = 30.

Theoretically - maybe.

Practically - not in Winnipeg.

If they really wanted to make it work, they could take the 30 storey building and divide it in half, building two buildings at 15 stories each. I know that 30/2 = 15.

I mentioned this before - but if they are upset about $$ increases, they shot themselves in the foot by not just pushing this thru during covid.

It's gonna cost double to build, and it made absolutely zero sense to delay it, if they intended on building it regardless.
