It is not surprising that with the Windsor Hotel being publicly ordered as vacant due to lack of a fire suppression system to learn today that it is now actively on fire.

That looks amazing. Who knows? Maybe it'll be Winnipeg's time this decade, and we'll see something like this go through.

It reminds me a bit of the River District development in South Vancouver, actually. It was first proposed in 2008, and we're just now seeing it bear fruit.

So sick of this city. What a depressing thing constantly watching stuff burn. I’ll get to walk past rubble for the next few years now I imagine. Good time.

A lot of times the WFD brings in a demo contractor to move the rubble around right after an active fire to keep the hot spots under control. They will also pull the walls down right away if they are considered a safety hazzard

The Windsor Hotel fire has also caused a fair sized MB Hydro outage downtown due to an emergency outage.

I don't know if is because MB Hydro thinks the smoke may cause problems to the bus bars at their York Ave Substation at the south end of the block behind the Windsor Hotel. Or maybe all the water being used has gotten into the older wiring in the underground hydro ducts and done something funny to the system

That whole block is such a piece of shit because MB Housing bulldozed the block, fenced it off, let the weeds grow in, and don't seem to have the first clue as to what they're going to actually do with it.

Absolutely correct! They have a very junior guy at the province who acts like a despot.

Holds up the removal of demo sites to insist on a wet clean up. More expensive than value of land.

No wonder areas look like war zones.

City must step in to clean up and add costs to tax bill.

Lily Street lot has been ruble for almost a year now…
