WS filed some additional 787 schedule changes this week:

YYC-HNL - Additional 787 flights were added in December
YYC-FCO - Now resumes 2 weeks earlier on March 16, 2x weekly.

If WS had any additional 787s coming, I could see FCO being upped to daily during peak summer periods.

WS adding YLW-LAS this winter.

Also WS has further expanded its codeshare with AF, with connections to about 50 Europe destinations now available.

LX adding summer seasonal ZRH-YYZ next year, 5x weekly A330. This is in addition to AC already serving the route. Not a replacement.

https://swiss.newsmarket.com/english/pre...4/s/9c4db9f8-6efa-4073-9f92-c16f2bbb5f2d

LX has never served YYZ, but SR did, back in the 70s, 80s and 90s.

Also, no LH mainline to YYC or YOW for now, it seems. They will add FRA-MSP/RDU next summer, and MUC-SEA.

Pretty sure this is another Swoop take back route that was WS mainline before Swoop.

That was a smart move.

On a similar note, I'm wondering if Air Canada isn't regretting bailing on the Transat deal now, if for no other reason than bringing over their pilots!

It was mentioned though an increase on FRA-YYC, however this could simply just account for them taking over for AC. Be interesting to see if the 12x weekly sticks. I don't think any LH group airline serves any route currently more than once daily?

Further, Lufthansa in 2024 plans to increase frequencies between Frankfurt and each Austin, Dallas, Orlando, and Calgary, as well as increase San Diego-Munich service to daily from three times weekly.

God I wish LH would take over the 7x weekly AC flights and Discover would stick to 5x weekly

^ Speaking of YOW, noticed on these links that UA has 1 more freqency from YOW than they do from YUL. 50 vs 49 weekly. Don't know if that's a mistake or not, as both YUL and YOW seem to have 2x daily to IAD and ORD, and 3x daily to EWR, so where is that extra 1x weekly frequency from YOW going?
New numbers yet again. I added YHZ and YWG to the list.

YUL 979
YVR 888
YYC 246
YOW 213
YHZ 175

Edelweiss Air is increasing its presence in Canada in S24:

ZRH-YVR Up to 1x daily, service extended to October
ZRH-YYC Up to 3x weekly, service starts 4 weeks earlier

https://airwaysmag.com/edelweiss-expand-...6pIOZEcQe-3dWf_MtV-9IYw-tY1skya-4aVpLHCE

Nice to see, despite losing AC to FRA, YYC gain additional capacity to Europe and none of it came from WS.

I'd rather it was Swissair.

Is it safe to call YYC, YOW, YHZ, and maybe YEG.... AC "focus cities"? Do they even use that term anymore internally or externally? Or are they all, just another station?

The definition of a focus city is pretty vague, but it's more so about the destinations served rather than the weekly departure count. A focus city for an airline would need to have a limited amount of point to point routes, similar to a hub, but much smaller in size and scope.

I think YYC most definitely qualifies, as AC still serves YYC-LHR/EWR/YWG/YQB, etc, all point to point routes. Same for YOW and maybe YHZ.

I wouldn't call YEG a focus city, as most routes that AC operates from there are to one of the hubs.

Not-much-focus-cities-anymore perhaps? AC serves fewer year-round destinations out of YOW in 2023 (currently YVR, YYZ, YUL, YQB, YHZ, EWR & DCA) than they did in 1975. It's a far cry from 2019. At least YYC & YHZ still have LHR. I suspect YOW will get LHR back once the XLRs are on property.

AC have been clear that the big 3 hubs are their rebuild focus. You can't blame them for doing so, especially since the fleet is much smaller in 2023 vs 2019. No more DH3s & pax 767s and a lot fewer 319s, 320s, offset by the 223 & MAX additions, and a few more 321s, 330s and 789s.

YOW's big future obviously lies with Porter.

Aeroroutes is saying YVR will be 6x weekly in peak summer.

WK’s timetable shows it’s peak frequency is daily, from July 6-August 29.

Wonder what other destinations in BC are at risk for being suspended by Air Canada?

Penticton is a surprise as they've served it forever. Does anyone else even fly that route?

Jazz is very short of pilots but why not replace some of their flights to Victoria with a tag on from a mainline flight. AC used to have an A320 do one YVR-YYJ turn.
