Amazon warehouses are played up as big industrial employers, but they are basically retailers who deliver instead of have customers come to them. It's not really a boon in the sense many people think it is.

It's still 300 jobs (maybe all of them are not new), and a new development on a long empty tract of brownfield land right in the centre of the city.

That lot has sat empty for near 20 years ever since Chrysler's paint plant was initially being built and then cancelled. I get it, it's not the same as the Amazon facility recently built near St.Thomas, but it's better than an empty lot.

Has anyone heard any news on when construction may start on that 28th story condo Riverside drive and Jeanette. Also still haven't seen any construction start on the Riverside and Hall Condo. It is sad watching too cool condo buildings going up across the river one almost fully glasses in and ours hasn't even had a sign up yet. Starting to get the feeling those two will disappear like so many others.

Last I heard Farhi's tower was seeking rezoning a couple months ago. I think it's still very early. Unsure about the condo at Riverside and Hall.

The 12 storey tower proposed for Walkerville (3251 Riverside Drive E & 222 Belleview Avenue) is going before the development and heritage committee for a zoning amendment. Nice to see some movement on this one.

The Mikhails propose a high end movie theatre and retail space for the former Silvercity site. They are seeking financial incentives from the city to renovate. Joe Mikhail wrote a letter to the city stating some of the surrounding retail is threatening to leave the area.

Maybe its my unfamiliarity with the Mikhails but, for a more prominent name in the Windsor commercial real estate game/developer side of things... do they not get anything done? Do they just acquire property then sit on it?
There was an article a few months back about them and this same building, when the vandalism was at its peak. At that time, Mikhails were saying they had things lined up for a medical facility. Almost like a TMC clinic on the east end. They wanted city help at that time too. So lets just completely drop that possibility and go back to a movie theater ?

That deal probably fell apart once the actual costs were revealed. That building has been stripped of all value and vandalized repeatedly. I think it should be demolished and redeveloped into a highrise.

This would be a nice addition to that lot. It's been empty for as long as I can remember. Now if only the city could get Ford to do some sprucing up of that fenced off riverfront property across the way there and that area could really turn around.

Several hundred housing units are going before the planning committee next week. Included is a 16 storey apartment in east riverside which is expected to be denied due to its proximity to a pollution control facility among other things.

At the site of the former Our Lady of the Rosary church.

"Plans are in the works for a new attraction on the site of a former catholic church.

Larry Horwitz has announced plans for a convention center,..."

^ Sounds like a great development, but I’m not sure if Horwitz has the ability to get it done, we shall see.

That corner lot is where the old city hall for Ford city used to be.

I think that the huge parking lot across from Drouillard that the casino used is for sale now, so it would be nice to see more interest in developing that section of Riverside Drive. That whole Ford City waterfront area from Hiram Walker to the waterfront parks to the east Is primed for some new interesting development. This proposal along with the condo development just to the east of the Ford Power Plant is a very good start.

It's the same councilors constantly opposing development in this city and supporting the nimby's. Council voted 6-4 in favor (those against wanted a 9 storey tower max). The mayor was against the proposal. How he is head of a provincial housing committee is beyond me .

Highway 3 by pass in Essex complete. Government confirms funding for ongoing expansion of the highway along with a new 401 interchange at Lauzon parkway

The Gordie is progressing. The Americans won the race to the top (their tower reached finish height).

Banwell Road apartments,

TWO PHASES OF APARTMENT DEVELOPMENT ALONG BANWELL ROAD A STEP CLOSER TO APPROVAL

"...McKenzie says while developments such as the NextStar electric vehicle battery plant and the new Windsor-Essex Acute Care Hospital will increase population, Windsor is already seeing 1,000 new residents monthly.

"The housing needs are going to be further exacerbated by the pressure that those amazing opportunities represent, in terms of the economic development and adding health care capacity to our region. There's no question about that. But we're in it right now, today. We're not responding to what we might see in front of us, it's happening in real time."

Phase 1 of the project, at Banwell and McHugh, recently received full approval from city council.

This development will see one six-storey dwelling, three eight-storey dwellings, as well as a two-storey business office and a residential care facility.

Phase 2 and Phase 3 will be presented to city council within the next month for final approval. "

Full story with more details here:
