4 years ago O.P.P. caught someone doing 308 kph…

Edit: Never mind that was QEW: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/hamilton/...0stopped,t%20have%20his%20full%20licence.

200+ kph isn’t all that uncommon on 400-series expressways.

Should be a ten-year license suspension and automobile seizure without reimbursement. That'll learn these fuckers.

Maybe do the same thing for these fucking assholes with cherry-bomb mufflers and the assholic motorcycle night riders. I hate these fuckers. I am positive they are complete selfish, inconsiderate dicks in other life roles.

1% of the drivers cause 99% of the problems.

Hard to imagine that this used to be a full cloverleaf back when development hadn’t jumped north of 401

If you're bored, check Toronto historic areas from 1964 and 1965 to see how they staged the construction of the 400/401 interchange. It's interesting (to me at least) what order they built the bridges in in order to keep the ramps open.

I find this ramp particularly interesting. For a construction season, the ramp from the eastbound 401 to the northbound 400 followed a horseshoe curve using the adjacent Jane Street underpass to complete the movement:

What a beast. Sadly, it won't be long before this new collector/express lanes setup is perennially congested, just like the other, older sections with this arrangement.

The parts of the 401 collector/express system which have particularly bad congestion are between the 427 and, say, Kennedy Road, or even arguably the 404.

East of Kennedy and through Mississauga the highways usually pretty good for traffic, if not entirely fool-proof.

I imagine this stretch will be like that for a good while. The widening represents an approximate doubling of capacity on it, it'll take a while for traffic growth to eat that up.

I think it's going to be interesting to see how much the extra westbound collector lane through Scarborough improves traffic flow over the coming years, once that construction has finally been completed. I have a feeling that small change is really going to improve the westbound lanes of the 401 through Scarborough.

Highway 4/401 cloverleaf rebuild to start next year.

This should also allow for 6-laning the 401 in west London so it matches the widening they're doing by adding a concrete barrier towards Windsor.

I'm honestly surprised that they didn't get rid of that overlap on the westbound side a long time ago. When you take the Lambeth ramp, there is a light and you can turn left to go south on highway 4 already (nobody does because there is the direct ramp to the south on the west side of the interchange). But they could have just as easily closed that west to south loop ramp and force everyone to turn left at that light, like most other interchanges do now, and eliminate that extremely short overlap with the onramp and exit. Even without worrying about traffic entering the highway, trucks exiting there have to slow right down while still in the live lane because the exit ramp is so short. This new interchange will be a vast improvement for sure.

Looks like they had the presentation yesterday. They decided to go with a design from 2018 with a couple modifications. Construction to start in March.

One of the overpasses will be rebuilt way to the east of the current structure. Usually replacements are made right next to the existing bridges.

Copying my reply from the London thread..

They had decided several years ago now that they were going to move the Glanworth Drive bridge well to the east. They had originally planned to not replace it at all, and instead direct traffic onto Tempo Rd where they could then go over the 401 on Col Talbot. The farmers protested this saying it would be very dangerous to mix farm vehicles with 4 lanes of Col Talbot traffic as well as merging and diverging 401 traffic. This new plan gets Glanworth Dr well away from this interchange, which currently it merges right in the middle of the off ramp from west to northbound.

wow, a lot of progress in a week. I was in Cambridge the weekend before that and it was a gigantic mess full of half-painted lines and random lane closures and detours..
