A Shediac seasonal bus would absolutely need to start in downtown Moncton near the hotels otherwise it misses a huge part of the target demo (tourists, newcomers, car-free urbanites) imo.

This is all very true, the bus to Shediac was pre-pandemic and as you say, a lot has changed. The demographic of Shediac certainly has changed with more and more international residents than locals who would love to have the option to use a commuter bus.

The article states that Saint John (population ~70,000) has issued $65.2M in construction permits in the first six months of this year. Shediac (population ~7,500) meanwhile has issued a whopping $76.5M in permits during the same time.

Growth in Shediac is currently explosive. It's only going to continue. A contact of mine has suggested there are several projects in the pipeline, not yet announced, that will add considerably to the building permit valuation for the town (incipient city).

This is exciting, can't wait to see Shediac grow up and put some size on, then hopefully go for city status. More and more I hope that they enter the CMA.

I wonder if they will rename the Scoudouc Industrial Park to the Shediac Industrial Park and put some money into it to compete with Moncton and Dieppe. More competition would be even better and they are right next to the highway.

There was a post on Facebook retail talk and share saying that St. Louis bar and grill is officially confirmed to be opening at McQueen place on Main Street.

Just had a conversation with the vice principal at Shediac Cape, still no decision on the location of the school, or none that she was willing to tell me anyway. I did ask about enrollment, they are now over 500 students! If you consider that before the pandemic they were sitting at around 280-290 students and were over capacity then you can see why a new school is so desperately needed there. One can only hope that they build a new school with some room to grow.

No render as of yet. As you noted, major infrastructure is needed for this project to get going, and construction is still years away. At 600 units, this project will be massive. It reminds me a lot of Breaux-Bridge Estates (multiple building project backing on Highway 15 and eminently visible from the highway). Interesting the site plan includes an inground pool as well as tennis and pickleball courts, and direct access to the walking trail paralleling the highway.

The massive growth of Shediac continues. Shediac will soon be a city.

I heard on CBC radio as I was driving home that this proposal was rejected by Shediac town council. They felt that this was too far removed from the core of the town and that the costs of servicing the development would be too high. There were also concerns regarding the appropriateness of the development within the neighbourhood.

there was quite a gathering of people at the council meeting last night. I believe most if not all were quite opposed to this development, mostly for the same reasons listed above.

The three parcels of land, which the developer was to purchase from other developers, would have to be rezoned.

Town residents would have lost access to the walking trail for 6 months or more.

There was something a little smelly about this proposal. Thankfully, denied.

They mentioned the new Shediac Cape school on a CBC online article about overcrowding in Moncton area schools. The article confirmed that the school replacement project is still "officially" in the site selection phase, and that the new school likely will not be completed until 2027.

Knowing the current government, the new Shediac Cape School will be built in Cocagne.

That's a big project (especially if the "future expansions" transpire)!

It's always been a bit peculiar that the Scoudouc Industrial Park has underperformed, considering how active and rapidly expanding the industrial parks in Moncton and Dieppe have been. Perhaps with the amalgamation, and the Scoudouc park now in Shediac, things might take off with the new management............

I'm sure a new street parallel to Veterans Hwy. would make for much more desirable commercial lots with better visibility.

I'm assuming the property where this will be built is the one directly behind the Boishebert club on Boishebert st. This vacant lot is zoned Central Commercial and was sold in July for $326000. This would be similar to the building they built on St. Anne in size I would think.
