AFAIK the problem was the tower having an entrance fee (in order to recoup the cost), and the public understandably not being happy about a free public view turning into a paid private one. Nothing's stopping another City Council or Parks Board from bringing it up again... but since Ken Sim and ABC want everything new in the city to turn a profit, it's probably not these ones.
You still have a free view of the trees and the tops of the mountains.

This seems like the most recent brainstorm session on the loss of view.

Of course, you would rather that the City of Vancouver be in a state of poverty with empty coffers just like when ABC took over from the previous government.

Not saying that putting an ugly viewing platform on top of an iconic dome is a good idea, but if the City spends public money to build something for public use, it isn't outrageous to get something in return for that kind of financial investment.

I think every attraction (museums, swimming pools, etc.) run by the City or Province should be free for BC residents.

Devil's advocate, would you rather an attraction exist but have a fee, or not exist at all?

I want free things too, but sometimes we don't have unlimited resources for wants when there are existing needs. If you want something, you either need to divert resources from elsewhere, or make it revenue neutral.

I have not costed my proposal, it's just my pipe dream.

But I just returned from NYC and I love that residents can visit The Met, the natural history museum, MoMA, and more for free on certain days.

Most major tourist attractions around the world have at least discounts for locals, if not free entry. It certainly helps with goodwill towards the industry in general.

Even Ottawa has certain museums free on certain days of the week, no proof of residence required. That's just BC's modus operandi though, "bring cash".

I did not know that and I have never been to it. You can also get a resident discount at Flyover Canada, Capilano Suspension Bridge, etc.
