I can't think of any other grocery brand, since all the other ones are represented fairly well around.
It's two 10 story apartment buildings. I don't think there is enough room on site for a grocery store at this point.

I think Unigym is supposed to be building on that corner.

to be clear i'm not talking about where the cranes are.

i'm talking the now fenced in area in the commercial development area. On the website for Destination V in the drawings it definitely looks like a grocery store.

The unigym would be going in a separate area from my understanding, not in the commercial area.

My understanding is that Unigym is supposed to be right on the corner of Vanier and Plateau. I could be wrong, it's happened before

I really hope it is another chain fast food restaurant accessible only by car.

One that forces all exiting traffic into a single lane to the only signalized exit intersection? Please, oh please!

The CCU sided with Destination V's promoter last March (see minutes) in its request to edit the plans previously approved by the council for buildings 7 (restaurant - multiple derogations) and 12 (grocery store - larger building, removal of the planned underground parking access ramp, etc.).

In these documents, the CCU explicitly refers to building 7 as "McDonalds" and building 12 as "IGA".

Thanks for this, I'm shocked that it's an IGA given that there's already one in Plateau and one in Aylmer centre. I was really hoping it would be an Adonis.

The IGA in Plateau is so expensive now that I only go there if there is a specific item on sale in the flyer that I need. While I'm there, I take pictures of everyday prices and send them to my family so we can laugh. It makes Metro and Provigo look affordable (which is really saying something). They have AA beef tenderloin there for $84.99/kilo this week for example. This new IGA will be much closer to me, but the only business they'll get from me is the odd loss leader from the flyer.

I don't think that's enough of a prime destination location for Adonis.

If there was another Adonis in Gatineau it would probably be somewhere in the vicinity of Grives and Plateau.

Might not be prime enough for Adonis, but has a better clientele mix than their current Gatineau location IMO. And I thought that since Premiere Moisson is opening next door (both Adonis and Premiere Moisson are Metro brands) and there's a Premiere Moisson next to the current Adonis in Gatineau I thought things might be lining up for it to be Adonis but oh well.

The population in the Plateau etc area is slightly more affluent, but between the Gatineau River and Labrosse there is a huge Lebanese, North African and Middle Eastern population. I swear, 20% or more of my street is Lebanese.

The western end of the Plateau has a large Black population, just from real life experience.

Same for the area around Front and Allumettières.

Where I used to live (rue Carillon in Hull) there was a concentrated Portuguese community. Damn, my landlord was from Portugal.

The Sainte-Bernadette Church just off rue Carillon is a Portuguese Church.

You get serenaded by its bells while sitting on the back terrasse of Soif Bar à Vin (formerly Le Twist).

True, though they're not the primary market for Adonis. Even if it does have a tendency to carry "ethnic" products not necessarily from Arab countries.

There are a couple of smaller Lebanese groceries near my place that have diversified in this way, and in addition to Middle Eastern stuff they now also have Latin American, Caribbean and sub-Saharan sections.

There is a Shawarma place on rue Principale that I frequent monthly. Her prices are high, but I like it. They usually pile a lot of food, and it makes me keep coming back.

The Chawarma place at Destination V could take a lesson.

The best shawarma in all of the NCR is La Casbah at Agora in my opinion...and a lot of others. 4.9* on 393 Google Reviews. My parents come from Kanata to eat there

If that is a grocery store on the far right, it will have a hilarious lack of parking.
