Is Mondrian generic restaurant name or is this dual branded? Mondrian hotels are Accor brand and 5 star so I’m guessing it’s not dual branded…

I don't think it's an active project. I can't find any permits for it, and it's extremely rare for the architect to post renderings of an active project before a developer announces it.

I would be really, really surprised if this was a real thing at this point. The amount of existing Hyatt-affiliated product in and around this site is pretty huge already -- Driskill, Hyatt Place, Thompson/Tommie, and of course the OTHER Hyatt Centric on Congress. Color me skeptical on this one.

UT is going to knock down Erwin Center, build new hospital in its place.

The space needed for the hospital will be made possible through the demolition of the Frank Erwin Center, the former longtime home of the Longhorns’ basketball teams. The university announced years ago that it would raze the arena to free up space to expand the medical school.

The sources, who were not authorized to speak publicly on the announcement, confirmed the hospital is the subject of a press conference that the University of Texas System has called for Monday. Scheduled to speak are Gov. Greg Abbott and two top System officials: Chancellor James Milliken and Board of Regents Chair Kevin Eltife.

The mayor and the Texas Land Commissioner just held a press conference at the Hobby Building. It appears that the request for proposals process for this block is finally beginning. They said that want proposals that include "workforce housing" and child care. Watson made plenty of hay about the light rail running next to the site and the potential for state workers to have child care where they live and take the train to work at the Capitol.

That's just my quick synopsis. I'm sure there will be news stories with more details written about this fairly soon.

Edit: Also, they made it a point to say that they wanted retail on this block for downtown residents also.

Edit again: Personally, I think I'd love to see HEB open a store within the development.

Give me a downtown HEB, give me a child care center, give me a light rail station, give me 500 affordable units and 500 luxury condos.
Give me a 1200 footer to tower over the former mayor's house.
Give me everything!

It's been pretty dull on here lately, kinda just in limbo like our never ending summer of death. I can understand, who wants to go take pictures when its 105+ every feaking day. Hopefully there will be lots of activity once we finally cool off.

^^^There is too much precariousness in both the national and global economy. Hard to get any financing right now (and for the near-term).

There is also a lot of uncertainty with the office sector. How is that going to shake out in the coming few years?!?
