The Edmonton Public Library is a travesty. It was never much of a looker, but it blended in. This thing looks like a cheap spaceship knock-off.

Ours won't be as nice as Calgary's, but it will likely be one of the nicest in Canada.

Calgary's is very nice, but I feel our architecture is more timeless. And I love the setting with the aquaduct etc.

The re-profiling of Albert street here is very obvious - that's going to smooth out the hill a lot.

Wonder if it's visible from street level looking east.

CBD will be nicely book-ended by the NAC and Library. Two landmark cultural institutions.

There was a lot of criticism of the site chosen, but man you can't pick a more high visibility, iconic site. The view from the Quebec side, the Portage Bridge, the Pumping Station, Slater. It will actually be part of the skyline, and forever at that thanks to the escarpment protecting the view.

Totally agree. It's extremely central to what the core will be in 10-15 years as well, smack dab in the middle when you consider the future of Tunney's, Lebreton, Little Italy, the traditional core. As the gaps between these nodes fill in, this library will be as central as you can get.

It’s definitely visible from street level looking west. East I think it will be a bit hidden behind Dream

That whole area is a mess right now. Tried to walk thru to get to the point to watch the fireworks a week or so ago, it was tough trying to navigate.

Is the Slater/Albert realignment being done right now too? Or when do we expect that to start/finish?

It's being done now. Not 100% sure what the timeline is. I imagine it will be complete around the same time as the library (one would hope).

Here's the SSP page for that one:

This thing looks a lot taller than I expected, and they still haven't started on the double height top floor. I thought by the renders that we were getting a less impressive central library than Calgary, but now I'm thinking it will be grander. I don't think the interior will compare to Calgary's though.

It's great to see some of the jacks come off and see the actual shape taking form!

Man this is way bigger and much more prominent then I had anticipated in the best way possible. Definitely nice to see some of the jack come off and slowly reveal the structure better.

How many floors is it supposed to me? Is it almost "topped out"?
