Pandemic likely killed it, and the pilot shortage probably doesn't help. You'd need some demand returned to prioritize a route like that.

I hope it gets restored one day. Flying direct into Edmonton still feels like you're on a connecting flight. The city itself is quite a ways away from their airport, especially if you're headed downtown or past the Yellowhead.

Another flair add this week!!

Calgary (YYC) - 3x weekly (Mon,Wed,Fri) starts 01JUN23

This will bring much needed competition to this route since Westjet had a huge monopoly on it. When flair added YKF-YYC and lynx added YHM-YYC, Westjet lowered their fares in response!

Another cool feature the airport posted about on their social media today is they have built an outdoor skating rink, open to the public for free. It's at the airport operations centre. Go north on Crumlin to the end, where it bends to the right. When you go around that bend, there is a street that cuts off to the right at a 45 degree angle, with an AOC sign. Just go past the Shell fuel tanks on the left and the rink is right past that. There's maybe a dozen parking spots on the public side of the fence at the AOC.

Daily, nonstop flights to the 7 other biggest cities in Canada (e.g., not counting KW or Hamilton) would make London Int'l a fabulous airport. Probably, there is little demand for a Quebec City route. But daily flights to Montreal? Vancouver? Calgary? Ottawa? for sure. Perhaps also Edmonton and Winnipeg.

Imagine how awesome it would be to have a direct flight to NYC!

i don't give two shits about those — charter flights to Mexico and the Caribbean.

They are slowly getting back there. We did have Ottawa, Montreal, Calgary, Winnipeg, Vancouver (Abby anyway), Halifax all happening on a pretty regular if not completely daily basis before Covid. 6 months ago was looking pretty bleak so we are definitely on the right track.

From the Canada Forum, WestJet is adding 2x weekly to Edmonton this summer. No idea why they would pull Swoop out to add the mainline back in, but whatever lol.

Looks like Swoop is going to be flying to Abbotsford twice weekly starting in May. Frequencies will increase to four weekly shortly after. Prices are cheaper than anything I've seen out of yxu. Media announcement to be made later next week.

This is amazing, am I crazy or is this really cheap? I did a quick check and was showing a $125 return leaving late May and returning a few days later. That is a game changer for travelling if so.

According to a post in the Canada Airports thread, Flair will be doing Cancun twice a week. Will also go to Orlando Sanford but the frequency isn't showing up yet.

Further to the above, Cancun flights twice weekly start Nov 29, Wednesdays and Saturdays, and Orlando twice weekly starts Jan 22, for Monday and Fridays. Not seeing Tucson AZ in the schedule this year.

In my 18+ years living in London, and as someone who flies 3-4 times/year, I would estimate that 75% or more of the connecting flights from Pearson to London have been cancelled/delayed. I am ready to give up on connecting flights. — Air Canada is just wretched.

75% of your connecting flights maybe. Maybe you travel at peak times when airport movements at Pearson might be under pressure causing the small commuter flights to get bumped to allow a larger airliner to come/go. London also has fewer daily flights to Toronto now, but on larger aircraft, than what we had pre-pandemic, so lesser odds of a flight being cancelled. It was nothing for them back then to cancel a mid morning flight with 20 people and combine with a flight 90 minutes later.

My son flew to Germany a few weeks ago, and started in London. Infinitely better experience than if he had started out in Toronto. No security line at London, got off the plane in Toronto, walked 10 minutes to the gate for Munich and sat down. If he had started at Toronto, be probably would have needed to be there checking in at the same time as he checked in at London and deal with all the lines.

I actually hate them.

They completely messed up me and my Dads flights back from Vegas. First, they never bothered to tell us our flight was being co-chaired, so we ended up missing it because we were waiting at the wrong gate.

Then, after Delta helped us get on a flight to LAX, we missed our connecting flight because some asswipe at Westjet said our tickets were invalid, and to take them to Delta. After a 40 minute wait (why we missed flight), the Delta airlines told us the Westjet guy was full of — and our tickets were good.

So Delta ended up getting us back home, but because of it, we missed the last flight to London from Toronto, and had to rent a car and drive home at 12am.

Needless to say I will never use them again, or possibly any Canadian airline. I think I will use Delta from now on, they know how to do a flight well.

I have been watching commercial flight activity at YXU from Flightaware.com for years, and I am quite underwhelmed by the summer season at YXU. Firstly, Air Canada reduced their YUL service down to a summer seasonal service although it was initially to be year round. Sticking with Air Canada, they have been cancelling flights to London from Pearson at an unreasonable rate. They also have been offering 3 or 4 flights a day on mixed q400s or crj200s and sometimes a crj 700. This is definitely a reduction in capacity, as AC used to have up to 8 flights a day, albeit on smaller equipment. Secondly, Westjet’s service to YEG has been reduced to once a week, down from twice a week. I’m not optimistic at all that YXU will see any routes from westjet once swoop shuts down. Lastly, flair airlines butchered their schedule this summer in YXU as a result of the high profile plane seizures. They have a sold out flight here and there from what I’ve seen on their website, but I’m not too sure how well these flights have been selling and after September they won’t be flying from YXU until November. I don’t think passenger numbers will be close to pre-pandemic levels. Hopefully we can land a decent service soon!
