It makes me think of their "égalité" concept in left-wing politics.
Nothing is supposed to ever stand out, which is a bit boring and even sad in a skyline.
Like some kind of conformity that actually serves always the same establishment.

Paris famously has the same issue. It even seems local regulation is designed to prevent anything supertall from getting built.
So people living around the Eiffel Tower don't have to worry.

On the other hand, the density is starting to look serious in Montreal's skyline and let's be honest, no one needs supertalls in one's city for it to actually thrive.
But I do like tall towers as a symbol of momentum just like you do.
That must be some kind of fantasy of ours. Sometimes, self-criticism is interesting to understand what goes on to your own mind.

Oh, and your pictures are terrific, Rico.

My post was complete sarcasm, sorry. I don't actually see it as a tabletop, or as conformist, aesthetically or politically....

Nevertheless, building something taller than the hill will be necessary one of these days.

But yeah, your skyline is quite decent. And there's a lot of residential towers, not just offices.
That is a plus, at least IMO.

Nice video of Edmonton. I'll be getting used to that skyline for awhile as I'll be staying downtown for 5 weeks for work.

We're talking in the range of 200 metres. Building taller than the hill will never be necessary. Downtown will never reach that point in which every non heritage site is built to the maximum height (and what a dystopian place it would be) and than there is the rest of the island to intensify. This is nonsensical YIMBYism.

Like I always say, Table Top never refers to building lower valleys to create a more dynamic skyline as superficial a skyline is to the people living in it. It's always about creating taller and taller peaks.

I also like looking at skylines and seeing tall buildings built. That's just scratching the surface of a fascinating subject that a lifetime isn't enough to fully immerse.

Chief William Commanda Bridge was opened for a brief time the other day, providing a new skyline view. It was then closed again by police because it's not quite ready.

Not sure who deserves the credit for having removed the fencing at both ends but plenty of folks were taking advantage until Ottawa Police arrived and shut the party down (they were very nice about it).

I was just in Halifax, and had a very mixed reaction. On the one hand, Queen's Marque and a handful of other new developments are really of a new standard, and the city is growing up.

On the other, people sleep in tents on the Grand Parade and in Victoria Park. There was an open fire in the latter.

The latter is probably a bigger move to the downside than the former is to the upside.

If Halifax and Toronto are anything to go by, Canadian cities are a bit absurd right now.
