It’s really odd because elsewhere in Gatineau, there are really decent building going up, thinking of the development in Eddy not far from this one, so the economics must be there. The Zibi team have proven that they’re able to build high quality buildings, so why isn’t the Quebec side of Zibi getting as much attention as the Ottawa side, it’s really a shame.

I totally agree with you. The We2 project a couple of blocks away is looking fantastic, better than most projects in Ottawa. This area of Zibi is an absolute travesty. It looks messy as hell. I just hope the next row of buildings go taller and glassier and take the focus off these monstrosities.

Definitely makes saving the old janky concrete a lot more sensible! I feel it.

The design of it has changed since the original render, with the implemented version using straight posts not touching the structure, where as the render had it connecting to it. I suspect they didn't want to mess with it any further structurally with just how old it is.

Definitely a downgrade with the posts set up like that. Even just the lack of cantilever brings it down a notch.

Agreed. The way they did it, it looks like they didn't measure it right. Oversold it on the renderings. It's too bad.

Better than nothing. Had we not seen the renderings beforehand, this might have been cool.

Very nice. It will be sad to lose that space once it's redeveloped. They get quite a bit of use from it.

I'm looking forward to seeing the refurbishment of Jaques Cartier park, I guess that's where there festivals will go once it's finished? A really amazing place for festivals on this side of the river would the where the 🞵🞵🞵🞵 paper plant is in the very core or the National Capital directly facing Parliament, but apparently we love having a 🞵🞵🞵🞵 paper plant there and resigned their lease for another generation.

The advantage of Zibi over Jaques Cartier is its proximity to Vieux-Hull, and well, Zibi (if it ever becomes a true entertainment district all its own). Jaques Cartier benefits more the Byward Market over anything on the Québec side.

The Kruger plant is an eyesore for sure, but it provides many benefits; employment, energy for Zibi, local production of toilet paper (remember the pandemic?) When it shuts down, we'll probably lose it outright. Production will be shipped to Mexico or some third World country.

I'm....totally ok with that. It would be great if it could relocate in the region, but having a 🞵🞵🞵🞵 paper plant in one of most prime locations (THE most prime after Parliament Hill?) in our National Capital will always stink as far as I'm concerned.

Great shots (as always) Harley! I LOVE these towers on the Ottawa side. Look awesome and are so prominent from many different angles. They look massive from the 7th floor of the Civic where I am today.

Tesasini park was supposed to open in 2022. I say there is close to zero chance it opens in 2023. Are there any projects that get completed on time?

Other than 417 rapid bridge replacement of course.

I've been looking at this gravel next to the "steps" and couldn't figure out where it came from because it wasn't there in the fall.

Then I realized it was under the slabs but the gravel was washed away from under them during the freshnet. And these "steps" collapsed inside

This is so bad... At least it happened before they finished the park, so hopefully they rebuild it somehow

Picture from November:

Holy guacamole.

That seems, in retrospect, to be an unwise design choice!

Also, what infrastructure damage might be out there lurking after the latest Thursday event? (Why always Thursday??!?!) Are there washouts that haven't quite finished washing out yet?
