Just noticed... while the PR says it's E2, but when you actually trying to book a ticket, it shows it's flown by a DH8...

That's 1 of the 4 I hinted at last month ! Let's see if there's more in the pipe !

One of the 4 I doubt will start in W23, it's more of a S24 deal. But the other two are definite possibilities for W23.

J to Hawaii is full of points redeemers.

The City of Calgary Request for Proposals No. 23-1578

APPENDIX B – REQUIREMENTS A. PROJECT’SVISIONSTATEMENT

In a region that will continue to grow, it is vital to have a roadmap to build out a transit network that increases capacity for travelers and utilizes the best possible use of transportation assets. This project will assess the optimal rail-based transit connection between the Calgary International Airport and downtown Calgary that makes sense for Calgary and the region both in the short term and as part of the ultimate buildout of transit to the airport. The outcome of the study should provide clear direction for where investment should be focused initially. It is critical that the infrastructure that is recommended supports a service that will be valued by customers and respects taxpayers’ investment.

B. INTRODUCTION
The City of Calgary (The City) requires the services of a qualified engineering consulting firm to generate the following studies and deliverables including a final comprehensive report:
1. Review optimal rail/transit connections between the Calgary International Airport, downtown Calgary, the Blue Line LRT, the Green Line LRT, high speed mass transit and a potential multimodal station west of Deerfoot Trail;
2. Assess ridership opportunities and how that impacts an integrated passenger rail service between Calgary International Airport, downtown Calgary, the Bow Valley and Edmonton;
3. Review, rationalize and use the ridership studies and other inputs that are available from the privately proposed rail projects, The City’s Airport Transit Connection and neighboring communities, accounting for each other and reviewing options for transit services accessing the Calgary International Airport; and
4. Develop a recommended alignment for the service considering infrastructure and regulatory requirements, phasing for introduction of service and effective use of public funds.

It was funny to see a Westjet aircraft in that sketch! The article did state that carriers other than Porter will be allowed to operate from that terminal. I wonder if Westjet will indeed operate out of there?

The sketch also had quite a few Flair aircraft as well! This could be where flair puts their MTL base. Of course, subsidies and money talks; if they can get it cheaper at porters airport (alongside the better flight times), they’ll definitely move or split ops.

By 2025 all the Sunwing aircraft will be branded as WestJet. No reason for those sun destinations flights to not use a secondary airport if its close to the city.

In YHU’s case they cannot have international flights from that airport. It’s an exclusivity of YUL unfortunately. It would be a great for US ULCC & LCC carriers too but alas..

A VP of WestJet was in Moncton a few days ago to announce the establishment of year round service to Calgary.

https://tj.news/times-and-transcript/102145141 (paywall)

The VP went out of his way to state that there is a place for Moncton and NB in WestJet's future growth strategy, although he didn't elaborate.

He did mention that SunWing will increase it's service levels in Moncton this winter with 18% more seats to sun destinations, including Cancun, Caya Coco, Montego Bay, Puerto Plata, Punta Cana and Varadero.

This increase in sun destination service levels at YQM is very encouraging, and gives us a lot more security regarding the future of WestJet in Moncton. We will maintain a strong sun destination portfolio and we will have western Canadian service (Calgary year round, Edmonton seasonal). The only question that remains is whether or not WestJet will move the Moncton/Hamilton Swoop service to the mainline.

How many cities have Cancun flights this winter on Westjet?

MCO, TPA, CUN loaded on OAG at 3x weekly; PUJ 2x weekly.
Pretty much the same as Swoop.
Subject to change but I guess we'll get confirmation tomorrow.

WS formally announced the deswooping of YXX and YHM

https://westjet.mediaroom.com/2023-07-31...-sun-and-leisure-connections-this-winter

https://westjet.mediaroom.com/2023-07-31...ing-from-British-Columbias-Fraser-Valley

In both releases the following statement appears:

Quote:
Calgary, operating year-round, WestJet will ensure the Fraser Valley is one seamless connection away from its 787 international hub, granting seamless access to travel across Canada, the United States, Central America, Europe and Tokyo.
Unless this is just speaking in general, it’s interesting NRT got a mention as it presently ins’t scheduled in the winter months.

Big flair schedule update incoming.

I thought the Government told Westjet to create more sun-flying via Sunwing, not flair

Waterloo - Vegas
Winnipeg - Vegas
Victoria - Vegas
London - Orlando-Sanford
Winnipeg - Orlando-Sanford
Windsor - Orlando-Sanford
Saint John - Orlando-Sanford
Edmonton - Cancun
Winnipeg - Cancun
London - Cancun
Windsor - Cancun
Montreal - Cancun

Start dates aren't clear; schedule is currently being uploaded.

Haven't seen the SFB and LAS flights, but CUN flights are in the schedule

7x weekly YEG-CUN
7x weekly YVR-CUN
7x weekly YUL-CUN

2x weekly YWG-CUN
2x weekly YXU-CUN
1x weekly YQG-CUN

Looks like they will need a seasonal base at CUN? Based on the schedule, they'll need to rotate plane and crew at CUN.

YVR/YEG-CUN will be red-eye, while CUN-YEG will be a late-night flight.

YWG, YXU, and YQG will probably pay off; I feel like the YEG and YUL frequencies are rather... bold.
