Hard to say, but when your MPP's social media pages' primary focus is the plight of a certain ethnic group with seldom a mention of provincial politics, one has to wonder how seriously she takes her position or if it is just a platform to promote her own agenda (I am not saying her opinion is either right or wrong).

She has changed in the past few months after realizing her constituents were getting upset at her (she put out a tearful video about how she didn't know that her constituents were actually following her and wanted to know what she was doing in Queens Park), but one has to wonder if it is too little, too late. The west end might be conservative, but they also want representatives that at least appear to be representing them well. Only time will tell, but she might need some help from Uncle Doug.

Both those seats look reasonably safe with last election results. And each of them needs a $3B LRT line. Not to be crass, but $6B might get me more than two seats in the GTA or Hamilton. Heck, just imagine what $1B on BRT in Kingston, Peterborough it London might yield.

I think they'll make some vague commitment about giving Ottawa the LRT it deserves or some such, and stop there. After all, it's unlikely that Stage 2 East or Stage 2 West will even be open before the next election. Don't see them feeling like committing before those are in service.

Wow. Not realizing that her constituents follow her and want to know what she's doing for them.

Ford yesterday saying that Goldie Ghamari is a "phenomenal MPP" and how Merrilee Fullerton "served Ottawa very very well". That whole press conference oozed B.S.

Kanata is represented by the Liberals at the Federal level. I hope voters see that the PCs have made no efforts and vote Liberal. Not that the Libs will do anything either since they are powerless. Ford yesterday pointed to investments in the Kanata tech sector, but all of these are in partnership with the Feds, who no doubt invest way more money.

Isn't Kanata losing almost the entirety of its rural section by the next election? I think that should make it a bit more competitive. Not to mention its went Liberal federally so you never know. Guess we will see after tomorrow's election. Nepean will lose a bit of rural as well I think.

Here's a video from CTV Morning with Patrick Dumond, Mechanical Engineering Professor at uOttawa, explaining the bogie assembly, the failure point and what part will be redesigned.

He doesn't work for OC Transpo or RTG/RTM or Alstom, but understands the mechanics behind the train's wheel assembly.

As always, RailFans is completely on top of everything going on with Confederation line.

Here's the return-to-service update so far.

O-Train Return to Service Update :

Earlier today, Alstom and RTG provided the draft Safety Note. The document is being reviewed by OC Transpo. At a high level, the Safety Note lays out plans for a new inspection and replacement regime that requires:
• Continuing with all mitigation measures already in place
• Replacement of the leading and trailing wheel hub assemblies and axles every 60,000 kilometres
• Implement a new inspection regime for middle bogies

As a result of this enhanced inspection and replacement program, not all trains will be available to operate as they undergo wheel hub assembly replacement based on their current mileage. OC Transpo is committed to restoring O-Train service as soon as it is safe to do so. Based on this information, current reduced ridership levels, and that Line 1 can operate with either single or double-car trains, customers can expect the following progressive return to service:
• Eight single-car trains serving all stations on Line 1, approximately every seven to eight minutes
• R1 bus service will continue to operate in parallel to Line 1 service
• OC Transpo staff will continue to be at key stations to support customers during their trip
• The Transit Operations Control Centre will be closely monitoring passenger volumes at stations

This fleet size in combination with the ongoing R1 bus service will provide the capacity required to meet current customer volumes. This temporary single-car train configuration enables OC Transpo and RTG to manage the supply of rail vehicles while meeting the more frequent inspection and replacement regime in order to ensure the sustainable delivery of service.

OC Transpo and Rideau Transit Group (RTG) conducted a risk assessment and confirmed that since the system was originally designed to accommodate both single and double-car train operations, there are no additional risks to customer safety at station platforms.

As RTG progresses with the wheel hub assembly replacement, more trains will become available to maintain the sustainability of the eight trains in operation. Once OC Transpo can be assured that there is a sustainable number of vehicles available for service, we will assess an increase to the number of operating trains.

How will the city build trust in the LRT system?

By fixing the problem and having the system work reliably for several years. I don’t hear you complaining that cars are an unreliable form of transportation that no one will ever have confidence in because roads have to be closed now and again or there is congestion occasionally.

Pontiac, Plymouth and Mercury would like to have a word with you. So would a whole bunch of defunct auto manufactures.

Every time I have visited Ottawa since the line was opened, it was closed due to some sort of problem.

I don't just live too far for door dash, but also too far for any of the in store pizza delivery, by 4 km.

Interesting though,I am within 10 km of where a stop for the Budd car goes.

All of this doesn't mean I cannot see problems elsewhere and have ideas how to fix them. It is known as having an open mind. It is the opposite of being narrow minded.

I'm just a person who actually rides transit in this city instead of telling others 500 km away what to do with theirs.

Do you put this energy into fixing transit in Sudbury or just save that wisdom for us dumb city folk who can't understand what we use regularly?

So, I am guessing you are loving the bus ride.

Locally, yes, I have discussions with people about making our system better.

Good. Do more of that. And less of whatever this is.

As a taxpayer, I want to make sure everywhere uses my taxes for good. Since my taxes do not stay local, I won't keep my opinions local. If you don't like that, you can hide my comments, or just scroll on by. Canada has something called the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, of which in it includes freedom of speech.

There's a million taxpayers in Ottawa. We don't need some tourist who has never actually used the system to tell us what's wrong. We're good.

Also, the Charter of Freedoms doesn't apply to a discussion forum, but it does give the rest of us the right to tell you what we think of your opinions.
