Possibly a slab pour for the foundation? We’d need to see into the pit to know for sure and that’s a challenging task for this site.

I recall a site mgr at Cobalt telling me each buildings pad was about 80 truckloads of cement. This one, due to its footprint is likely 100 loads or more. They might be trying to get this in and set before the big storm later in the week and thru the holiday shutdown.

It's 4 floors underground, so I'd guess 3 months.

That view was almost lost....

Attempted arson at historic Hamilton church leads to arrest
https://www.insauga.com/attempted-ar...aLFOmST4v23AsE

A 49-year-old man is facing several charges after local police found flammable materials and evidence of arson at a historic downtown Hamilton church.

Fire and police officials responded to St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church at 70 James St. South on Dec. 31, 2022, after the fire alarm was triggered at around 4:15 p.m.

Police say an investigation found “incendiary material and evidence of an arson” at the 193-year-old church.

Leslie Cleave of no fixed address is charged with arson — disregard for human life, possession of incendiary material, and failure to comply with probation and release order.

Incendiary material is often referred to by law officials when describing a device or an attack designed to cause a fire.

Holy crap! I wonder if this is some sort of retribution for kicking the homeless group off the side entrance a few months back....

Or maybe a religious thing related to hatred for Presbyterians.

There was also this, more than 10 years ago:
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/hamil...vens-1.1286184 I had thought the earthquake was much more recent.

If this church ever goes, that will be an enormous loss and shame. I'm not religious at all, but I really appreciate church architecture.

Agreed - almost feels mafia like "hey if we destroy this church we can then "build" on it..

That church is one of the most beautiful and one of the oldest churches in the city - you can even see it in old 1800s images of the original downtown.

Serial arsonist. He was charged with setting fire to several buildings in Newmarket last year.

https://www.thespec.com/news/crime/2...rch-arson.html

Quote:
On security footage outside St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church on New Year’s Eve, a man was seen walking from the 168-year-old downtown building, looking back over his shoulder at the gas line he lit on fire.

“An arsonist wants to cause maximum potential damage, what better way than by attacking a vulnerable area of the building; the gas line,” said Det. Const. Shaun Fennessy, an assistant arson investigator with the Hamilton Police Service.

The man had used “incendiary material” including a wick and a rag to start the fire, said Fennessy, who added: “It was clear he had planned it.’”

The gas line is on the west side of the building next to a parking lot.

It was only because smoke wafted into an open church window, setting off a fire alarm in the boiler room, that firefighters were dispatched to the James Street South church at 4:10 p.m., putting it out with minimal damage.

Later that night, Hamilton police found a man downtown, wearing the same clothes as on the security video, and learned that the suspect had been charged with arsons in York Region last spring, where fires were set at two banks and a car dealership in Newmarket, 55 kilometres north of Toronto, with property damage reportedly $100,000.

“He would be classified a serial arsonist, given those circumstances,” Fennessy told The Spectator.

He said St. Paul’s church officials did not recognize the man.

More likely that he'll do it himself.

I agree he'll get charged, released, and find his way somewhere different where he may be able to satisfy his pyromania. There doesn't seem to be a pattern to his firestarting... banks, a dealership, a church. There are probably more fires that have not been associated with him yet. But if he is surfing the GTHA, I bet he gets caught again, and probably again...
