Wasn't/Isn't Tailgate Charlies around there? I remember going to the nightclub in the basement, when Energy 108FM would have "Big D" doing live-to-air shows there. It was loud, and the light show that was choreographed to the music being played was incredible...

You're thinking of John St S and Jackson St. It now contains the mediocre Industria Pizza Bar, and Zen Lounge club in the basement.

"Wet Kitty" was I believe one of the names for the downstairs club. And yes...
It was a lot of fun!

Anyone been by the site lately? I'm wondering they started pouring the foundation yet.

they have the site completely sealed off to the point where you really can't get a good vantage point into the pit, or least one which I could find.

Last Thursday.

Also one time I went up the fire escape a floor or two on the Desantis building, you can get over the plywood wall and see in the hole.

It looks like they have gone down to 3 level from 2 from the pictures in April.

Not that I wish to get anyone in trouble but drones can fly below grade. Maybe after hours or a Sunday when no one is working, a flight behind the walls down into the pit would be nice. Just a thought.

I'll do that if I remember, what do you want me to look at?

Just get a sense of how deep it is compared to the equipment. Does it look like it is getting any deeper? Things change over time compared to the original proposal, plans and renderings. It is hard to judge from the outside. Can we tell yet if it will be one or two cranes? And anything else you can find that is interesting or neat.

Also this will be the last time anyone will be able to see this area until it is torn down.

Wonder why this is taking so long. If it was a Core Urban project it would be at grade level by now lol.

They were shutdown for like 5 weeks because of the union strike.

It's only two parking levels deep, 6.6m. From the architecture set at the beginning of this thread.

for what it's worth, the excavation building permit describes a 4-level underground garage:

Quote:
Excavation and installation of shoring for the future development of a 34-storey Apartment building and a 4-storey podium with 4 levels of below grade parking and 4 levels of above grade parking.
The actual permit's description of the project:

Quote:
To construct 4-storey, 12,735.2 m² below grade parking garage for the future 34-storey high building. UNDGERGROUND CONSTRUCTION PERMIT. The proposed development entails a 34 storey (110.8 metre) tower with 635 dwelling units and a four storey podium. The unit types range from studio units to 3 bedroom plus den and live/work units. The proposed development will retain and incorporate the existing LiUNA Local 837 office which is a three storey Registered Non-Designated heritage building. Parking for the existing and proposed development will be provided in four levels of underground parking and 4 levels of above grade parking. A total of 337 parking spaces and 375 bicycle parking spaces are proposed. In addition, the proposal includes 428 storage lockers within the secure enclosed parking levels.

Hmm. Wonder why the switch. Doesn’t bother me much either way, but I do question how many condo units can be absorbed at once downtown with this launching and 41 Wilson. Combined they are over 1,500 units... then there are the other projects in the wings with imminent launches like Corktown, 71 Rebecca, City Centre..

Keep in mind we don’t really know when they are selling. As far as I am aware, Cobalt hasn’t actually had a single unit sold, but the signage has been up for 2(?)+ years now.

I imagine it could the same thing here. Spend a few years collecting names, and then sell when the building is, or is close to, completion — and when the market is likely to have gone up further. If you’re like LiUNA and have the money to build without pre-sales… why would you sell for less?
