Lisbon is a village in eastern Ohio, and is the seat of Columbiana County. The population is around 3,000.
Lisbon was founded in 1803, and is the second-oldest settlement in Ohio. The town saw growth from being on the Sandy & Beaver Canal, which was completed in 1848. Lisbon prospered under the early Industrial Revolution, with iron ore excavation and carriage-making being dominant industries. During this time, President William McKinley spent some of his childhood here.
By the late 1800s, the economy in Lisbon stagnated, as industries grew farther north in northeast Ohio. Today, the area around Lisbon is still relatively rural and agricultural, much like it has been for the last 100 years.
