Don't forget that the failure of the 2013 upgrades put the final nail in the coffin of good service on that line.

I don't know if what I picture is coming across properly. If interlined, then both sets of trains, those going to Riverside South and those going to airport, would operate as all-stop from South Keys to Bayview. This would mean substantially more capacity and higher frequencies on that portion. While also meaning no need to change at South Keys. Just pick the train heading to the airport.

I would rather they have twin tracked. But the power that be decided extending service was more important. And I do believe a huge part of that is because they feel they owe Riverside South something after cancelling the original LRT plan. This is why I say that plan and the burb is still screwing us over....

I don't think there is a strong objection to double tracking the Trillium Line. I think the failure of the 2006 project had a lot more to do with the other aspects of the project (the Albert/Slater mess and the long extension into low population/low density neighbourhoods in the south end).

I would certainly prioritize o-train double tracking over the Trim road extension.

The temporary parallel bus service may have been a mistake. It means the outbound bus transfers at Tunney's/Blair/Hurdman aren't working correctly because buses can't get there on time.

They should at least move the outbound PM Connexion routes to the LRT termini ASAP.

Agreed. It's starting to look like the better course of action would have been to simply rip the band-aid off and force conversion on Monday.

Good Day. Impression of St. Laurent.

Not bad, but not best. They can improve it.

The ceiling, and the HVAC/plumbing enclosures off the ceiling, has the air of unfinished / still exposed.

The trains on the station west side curve have some squeal as entering / exiting, but nothing extraordinary - probably thanks to the low speed.
The overall volume is like any other Metro, except that if they finished the ceiling in acoustic tiles, it would reduce overall noise well.

The handicapped door big metal button / plate on the right as exiting to the lower mall is either completely broken, or at the least off its internal mount - it's just hanging there.

Also at lower mall level, the center single door, and the next-to-the-right-as-exiting door of the pair, are locked. If broken, there should be a sign stuck on them.
Elsewise, == I Really Hate for-no-good-reason Locked Doors ! == ATT: OC-Transpo - UNLOCK THE DOORS !

I will be testing the AM rush-hour loading and ride soon.
Until then, - EnJoy!

In hindsight the best approach would have been the "Alex Munter plan": truncate it to LeBreton and figure out the downtown solution, which hopefully would have led us to the tunnel that we have today.

Interlining would halve frequency to the south, which is where the vast majority of the ridership will be coming from. Unless the line is twin tracked north of South Keys, that would means trains from the south would only be every 24 minutes. That would not provide enough capacity.

There are real congestion issues in the south end. That is what the LRT is being built for; not because people are "owed" anything.

Yeah, that's a good re-cap. Thanks for re-upping; had it in my to-read tabs last night then I conked out!

I really think they should call an early end to parallel service unless there's some union agreement that binds them to it or some such.

We need to reallocate bus resources, and ruthlessly, and soon.

Best for Trillium would have been to double track to South Keys, at the very least, and possibly electrify to have Line 1 type vehicles (but with 45 meter platforms). I would also have built a single track extension o the airport which is important to be competitive with other bug cities. Riverside South would be pushed to Stage 3. Do it right, not fast.

But we're not there yet. We haven't fully switched over to LRT yet. Not until the bus network that revolves around LRT comes into effect.
It's already clear that waiting and walking space at the transfer stations is inadequate and has design flaws at peak. Some of that will be mitigated (other than at Hurdman) with Phase II, but I think an interim solution is gonna have to be come up with, and soon: we can't wait until Tunney's and Blair become pass-through stations rather than termini.

But you HAVE TO climb all the way up just to come all the way back down. And the only staircase is at the very end of the platform which is different from the rest of the stations. The station either needed some escalators, or to allow the old way of crossing the road, or more of a rebuild to reduce unnecessary time waste for anyone trying to get to the Gloucester Centre.
I also love how after all the promises to the maligned east side of town about how things were going to be so great post-LRT, even if the closest stations are two or three km away, that the urban local routes (9 and 12) were given the worst boarding platforms at Hurdman and Blair. The suburban routes were given the prime spots.

Yeah, have noticed that St Laurent is waaay louder than the downtown subway stations. Some tinkering with the acoustics is probably in order.

That kinda makes sense though. If your commute is longer, your transfer should shorter

Disagree. The busiest routes should be closest to the stairs. So that they clear out quickly. This is sort of how it's done in Toronto at least.

Sure, there's more stairs to take to get to the platform with the 12 at Blair but it kinda makes sense why it's on that platform for now. It's also outside the fare paid zone. A minor inconvenience. The Connexion routes are on the eastbound platform because they all go east onto the 174 or down Blair rd towards Innes. The 12 goes west towards City Park drive. I suspect the layout is temporary as a good chunk of the Connexion routes won't go to Blair after Phase 2 is open. There should be room to move ALL remaining routes onto the fare paid zone platform then.

I would think the opposite should be true. An extra 2 minutes' walk on a 60-minute commute is only an extra 3%. But it's 10% of a 20-minute ride. Short, frequent lines should get the prime spots since the rides they permit are the most sensitive to transfer delays.
